#4 Fairmont Martins def. #1 Jackson Bulls 3-2
--Taylor Nawrocki was the winning pitcher for Fairmont, going all 9 innings, giving up just 3 hits and striking out 16. Ryan Rasche took the loss for the Bulls, pitching 7 and 2/3 innings, allowing 3 hits and striking out 6. Blaise Jacobson drove in a run for Jackson and Brett Larson pulled off a successful suicide squeeze to bring in a run for the Bulls. Fairmont leads the best-of-three series 1-0. Game 2 will be held in Fairmont Friday night

#3 Luverne Redbirds def. #2 Wilmont Cardinals 6-2
--Luverne jumped out to a fast start, scoring a run in the 2nd and 3 runs in the 3rd on their way to the victory. Justin Saufley took the loss for the Cardinals. Saufley and Lucas Henning each had 2 hits for Wilmont. Skylar Wenninger, Jared Pick and Joey Slieter each had 2 hits for Luverne. Nate Harbets was the winning pitcher for the Redbirds. Luverne leads the best-of-three series 1-0. Game 2 will be in Luverne at Redbird Field on Friday night with a late start of 9:00pm

--The winner of each series will clinch a berth to the Minnesota Class C State Amateur Baseball Tournament. The losers of each series will face one another in a series to determine the 3rd and final spot from the region at the state tournament.

MLB Baseball:
Kansas City Royals def. Minnesota Twins 3-2
--Things were going well for Twins starter Phil Hughes as held the Royals scoreless through 5 innings, but Kansas City broke through by scoring all 3 of their runs in the 6th inning and held on for the victory. Hughes took the loss, dropping his record to 10-8 on the season. The Twins scored a run in the 2nd inning on Josh Willingham’s 11th homerun of the season and a run in the 7th inning on an RBI single by Danny Santana. The Minnesota Twins are now 48-58 on the season and will wrap up the series with the Royals with another night game tonight. Listen live on AM 730 KWOA at 6:40pm

Worthington High School Eligibility Meeting
On Thursday, July 31, 2014 there will be a meeting for all athletes and parents participating in sports at Worthington High School for the 2014-2015 school year. The general meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the high school gymnasium. The agenda will include Minnesota State High School League rules, WHS academic eligibility rules, and attendance requirements for practice and game participation. Following the general meeting, each fall sport participant will meet their respective coaches to discuss team information, pay participation fees and sign the participation forms. All forms and fees must be turned in before the athlete will be allowed to practice.

Sanford Worthington is a proud supporter of Trojan athletics. As an added bonus this year at the eligibility meeting, Sanford Worthington physicians, rehab therapists, athletic trainer, nurses and support staff will be at the high school offering sports physicals to students who need them. From 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., your student can get a full sports physical at a low cost of $25. This will save you a trip to the clinic to have this done.

All 9th and 11th grade students must complete an ImPact Test (concussion) during the designated time for their sport.

Fulda Eligibility Meeting
Fulda is holding their Fall Sports Eligibility meeting on August 4th at the Fulda High School. Paperwork and payment of fees will begin at 6:15pm with the meeting to begin at 7:00pm

The Worthington Girls Basketball Association will be holding a basketball camp for girls coming into grades 1st through 8th on August 5th, 6th & 7th at Prairie Elementary in Worthington. The Worthington Girls Basketball Association invites girls of all skill levels in Worthington and the surrounding communities to attend this year's camp.

The Worthington Girls Basketball Coaching Staff works hard to provide each camper with a quality basketball experience. The Camp will focus on teaching basketball fundamentals and team building activities. The camp will be instructed by local coaches and will feature NCAA Division 1 Athletes.

There will be 2 session each day, with girls in Grades 1st through 4th to be in the first session from 8:00am until 11:00am and girls in Grades 5th though 8th to be in the second session from Noon until 3:00pm.

The cost of the camp is 50 dollars. The annual Minnesota West Bluejay Golf Scramble is coming up once again. The Bluejay Scramble will be held on Saturday, August 9th at the Worthington Country Club, starting with a shotgun start at 10:00am. Its 5-person teams with a donation of $50 dollars per golfer. That includes golfing, lunch, prizes and beverages.

--A great opportunity for area wrestlers in coming up in Inwood, Iowa in August. West Lyon will be hosting a wrestling camp on August 6th and 7th at the West Lyon High School in Inwood.

The camp is being taught by Joe Williams. Williams is a 10-time National Freestyle Champion, a 6-time U.S. Senior National Freestyle Champion and an Olympic place winner during his wrestling career. Learn all the techniques you possibly can such as the sweep-double, high-crotch, outside single, and many more. This camp will emphasize skills such as chain wrestling, various scoring holds, and the nonstop offense that many competitors fear. Joe will break down each step in the wrestling techniques and explain the WHY’s and the HOW’s, so athletes will be better educated and hit the right moves when it counts.
