--Worthington stays undefeated on the season and will face Owatonna at 5:00pm today in the semifinals
Jackson’s Keegan Moore came away a national champion at the USA Wrestling Cadet Greco-Roman National Championships, winning the 182-pound weight class with a 6-5 win over Wyatt Koelling of Utah. Moore has won now the Greco-roman and folkstyle national championships with a chance to win the freestyle title later this week
Region 13C Amateur Baseball playoff bracket has been set
The matchup have been set for the Region 13C Amateur Baseball playoffs which will begin on Wednesday. The Jackson Bulls are the #1 seed and will face the #8 seed Adrian Athletics in a best-of-three series. Game 1 is in Jackson on Wednesday night with Game 2 in Adrian Friday night and if needed Game 3 would be back in Jackson Sunday afternoon
The Wilmont Cardinals are the #2 seed and will face the #7 seeded Martin County Foxes in a best-of-three series. Game 1 will be in Truman on Wednesday night with Game 2 in Wilmont Saturday afternoon and if needed Game 3 will be back in Wilmont on Sunday
The Luverne Redbirds are the #3 seed and will face #6 seed Milroy Irish in a best-of-three series. Game 1 will be in Pipestone on Wednesday night with Game 2 Saturday afternoon at the Irish Yard in rural Milroy. If needed Game 3 would be back in Pipestone on Sunday
The Fairmont Martins are the #4 seed and will face the #5 seeded Hadley Buttermakers in a best-of-three series. Game 1 is in Fairmont Wednesday night with Game 2 Saturday afternoon in Hadley with Game 3 if necessary in Fairmont on Sunday
Each team can select a player who can only pitch from an already eliminated team.

Minnesota Twins def. Cleveland Indians 4-3
--After Cleveland tied the game 3-3 with a run in the top f the 8th, Josh Willingham’s solo homerun put the Twins up for good in the bottom of the 8th inning. Casey Fien picked up the win in relief with Glen Perkins pitching the 9th inning to earn his 23rd save of the season. Kurt Suzuki led the Twins at the plate with 3 hits and 2 RBI’s. Minnesota improves to 45-53 on the season and will face the Indians again tonight. Listen live on AM 730 KWOA at 6:40pm tonight.
Worthington High School Eligibility Meeting
On Thursday, July 31, 2014 there will be a meeting for all athletes and parents participating in sports at Worthington High School for the 2014-2015 school year. The general meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the high school gymnasium. The agenda will include Minnesota State High School League rules, WHS academic eligibility rules, and attendance requirements for practice and game participation. Following the general meeting, each fall sport participant will meet their respective coaches to discuss team information, pay participation fees and sign the participation forms. All forms and fees must be turned in before the athlete will be allowed to practice.
Sanford Worthington is a proud supporter of Trojan athletics. As an added bonus this year at the eligibility meeting, Sanford Worthington physicians, rehab therapists, athletic trainer, nurses and support staff will be at the high school offering sports physicals to students who need them. From 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., your student can get a full sports physical at a low cost of $25. This will save you a trip to the clinic to have this done.
All 9th and 11th grade students must complete an ImPact Test (concussion) during the designated time for their sport.
5:30 p.m. – volleyball, girls’ tennis, and girls’ soccer
7:00 p.m. – winter and spring sports
7:30 p.m – football, boys’ soccer, cross country
The annual Minnesota West Bluejay Golf Scramble is coming up once again. The Bluejay Scramble will be held on Saturday, August 9th at the Worthington Country Club, starting with a shotgun start at 10:00am. Its 5-person teams with a donation of $50 dollars per golfer. That includes golfing, lunch, prizes and beverages.

--A great opportunity for area wrestlers in coming up in Inwood, Iowa in August. West Lyon will be hosting a wrestling camp on August 6th and 7th at the West Lyon High School in Inwood.
The camp is being taught by Joe Williams. Williams is a 10-time National Freestyle Champion, a 6-time U.S. Senior National Freestyle Champion and an Olympic place winner during his wrestling career. Learn all the techniques you possibly can such as the sweep-double, high-crotch, outside single, and many more. This camp will emphasize skills such as chain wrestling, various scoring holds, and the nonstop offense that many competitors fear. Joe will break down each step in the wrestling techniques and explain the WHY’s and the HOW’s, so athletes will be better educated and hit the right moves when it counts.
