The Minnesota College Athletic Conference has released their weekly football awards and this week two Minnesota Bluejay Football players have earned Player of the Week honors.
Minnesota West Inside Linebacker Matt Shively has been named Co-Defensive Player of the Week in the Southern Division. Shively, a sophomore from Oakdale (MN), had 15 tackles, including 2 quarterback sacks with a forced fumble and fumble recovery in the Bluejays 26-6 home victory over Ridgewater on Saturday. Matt Shively has 61 tackles through 5 games this season.
Bluejay Kicker Tyler Smith was named the Special Teams Player of the Week in the Southern Division. Smith connected on a 44-yard Field Goal and made all 3 Extra Point attempts and had a punting average of 38.6 yards per kick in the Bluejays win over Ridgewater. Smith, a sophomore from Phoenix (AZ), leads the Southern Division in Punting Average at 35.7 yards per kick and has made 3 Field Goals this season and is 16-of-18 in Extra Points.
The Minnesota West Bluejays are 4-1 on the season and will travel to Brainerd on Saturday to take on Central Lakes at 2:30pm
