Gehl named MCAC Player of the Week for 2nd time

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference has released their weekly awards and for the second time this season, Minnesota West freshman Tiffany Gehl has been named the Minnesota College Athletic Conference’s Southern Division Player of the Week.

Gehl, a freshman from Fulda, averaged 35.5 points per game in the Lady Jays two victories over the past week.  Gehl scored 33 points in the Lady Jays 93-65 win over Rochester last Wednesday and added 38 points in Minnesota West’s 86-60 win over Riverland.  Gehl shot 53 percent (26 of 49) in the two victories, including 42 percent from beyond the arc (5 of 12).  She also grabbed 6 rebounds per game in the two victories.  On the season, Tiffany Gehl  is leading the conference in scoring, averaging 20.7 points per conference game.

Minnesota West finished the regular season at 19-6 overall and 10-2 in Southern Division play, putting them in a tie with Anoka-Ramsey.  The two teams tied for the #1 seed in the upcoming Region 13A Tournament, with the Lady Jays winning a coin toss and have been awarded the #1 seed for the tournamnet, being held this Saturday and Sunday at Anoka-Ramsey Community College in Coon Rapids.  Minnesota West will open up this Saturday against MSCTC-Fergus Falls at 8:00pm on Saturday night.
