Bluejay Basketball adds 4 more recruits

Minnesota West Men’s Basketball Coach Justin Heckenlaible has announced that the Bluejays have signed 4 more recruits for the 2014-2015 season.

The 4 recruits are Marcus Potter from Worthington, Alex Knutson from Westbrook, Cody Martinz from Custer (SD) and Mitch Prouty from Bryant (SD)

Potter, a 6'2" point guard, is coming off a senior season with the Worthington Trojans were he was a 2014 Southwest Conference All-Conference selection. He averaged 15 points, 3 rebounds and 5 assists per game. Coach Heckenlaible said about Potter: “Marcus can get to the basket and can hit...


Sanford Power Basketball Academy to come to Worthington

Sanford Power Basketball Academy will be holding a workout in Worthington on July 30th.

The session will run from 9:00am till Noon at Worthington High School on July 30th. The camp is open to all ISD 518 boys entering grades 7th through 12th and open for girls entering grades 9th through 12th. Cost of the camp is $25 dollars. For more information contact Clint Meyer at 507-329-0519


Region 13C Amateur Baseball Tournament field has been set

The matchup have been set for the Region 13C Amateur Baseball playoffs which will begin on Wednesday. The Jackson Bulls are the #1 seed and will face the #8 seed Adrian Athletics in a best-of-three series. Game 1 is in Jackson on Wednesday night with Game 2 in Adrian Friday night and if needed Game 3 would be back in Jackson Sunday afternoon

MCAC Winter & Spring Academic Award Winners

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference has released their 2013-2014 Winter and Spring Sports Academic Award Winners. Athletes can receive MCAC academic recognition if they have a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0 or better at the end of the semester in which the majority of the sport season occurs and they have enrolled in and completed a minimum of 12 credits during that semester.

Worthington High School Eligibility Meeting set for July 31st

On Thursday, July 31, 2014 there will be a meeting for all athletes and parents participating in sports at Worthington High School for the 2014-2015 school year. The general meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the high school gymnasium. The agenda will include Minnesota State High School League rules, WHS academic eligibility rules, and attendance requirements for practice and game participation. Tyler Starr to visit Sheldon on Friday

Former Central Lyon/George-Little Rock and University of South Dakota Football standout Tyler Starr will be making an appearance in the area this Friday (7/18) in Sheldon.

Starr, a Little Rock (IA) native, just completed his senior season with the USD Coyotes where he was named the Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2013 and was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the 7th round.

Tyler Starr will be stopping by the Hy-Vee in Sheldon on Friday from 2:00pm-4:00pm

Long-time WHS Teacher and Coach Don Basche died Wednesday

Former Worthington District #518 School Teacher and long-time Worthington Trojan Boys Basketball Coach Don Basche died on Wednesday, July 9th after suffering a stroke. The 80-year-old Basche fell ill during a Hospice Cottage Inc. Board of Directors meeting and passed away at the Sanford Worthington Medical Center.

Don Basche was a Worthington High School Graduate from the Class of 1952. After graduation, Basche went on to Worthington Community College and played Football, Basketball, Tennis and Track and won a conference championship in basketball. After WCC, Basche would go on...


All Comers Track Meet in Worthington

The Worthington Area YMCA and the Worthington Optimist Club are once again teaming up for the All Comers Track Meet, which will be held Monday, July 14th at the track at Trojan Field in Worthington. This is a FREE event, with age division starting as young as 3 years old to the 13 and older division. Events include a 50 meter dash, 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, 400 meter dash and the 800 meter run. Field Events include the Softball Throw, Long Jump and High Jump.

Everyone is invited to attend so come out and enjoy a free hotdog meal as kids will have a chance to participate...


Bluejay Golf Scramble

The annual Minnesota West Bluejay Golf Scramble is coming up once again. The Bluejay Scramble will be held on Saturday, August 9th at the Worthington Country Club, starting with a shotgun start at 10:00am. It's 5-person teams with a donation of $50 dollars per golfer. That includes golfing, lunch, prizes and beverages.
