WORTHINGTON – One person was seriously injured and three other received non-life threatening injuries when two vehicles crashed south of Worthington Friday evening shortly before 7:30 p.m.

According to information released by the Minnesota State Patrol, a 2007 Toyota Yaris was southbound on Minnesota 59/6o, driven by Genaro Casas-Sanchez, age 57, of Sibley, Iowa, with three passengers. WORTHINGTON - Law enforcement program students from the Minnesota West Worthington campus will be at local boat landings beginning this weekend to educate boaters about how to avoid the spread of aquatic invasive species (AIS). The students will be present at selected Nobles County boat landings on weekends and holidays from the Minnesota fishing opener through Labor Day.

ST. PAUL — Sen. Bill Weber of Luverne was appointed to the conference committee on House File (H.F.) 846, the Omnibus Environment and Natural Resources Appropriations Bill, earlier this week. This committee will resolve the discrepancies between the two versions of the bill that passed the House and Senate.

Charges filed in armed robbery case

WORTHINGTON – A 16-year-old Worthington boy is facing several charges in Nobles County District Court for allegedly committing an armed robbery at a small grocery store on Oxford Street in Worthington Tuesday. Simon Berihu Gebrehiwot is charged with first-degree aggravated robbery, second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and possession of a pistol after being convicted for a crime of violence.

Nobles County Commissioners approve Armory, tax forfeiture incentives, driveway

WORTHINGTON – The Nobles County Commissioners on Tuesday unanimously approved the purchase of the Armory Business Center for $225,000, an offer that had already been accepted prior to the meeting. The final cost, with closing costs and rental credits, has yet to be determined. The purchase includes the building at 225 Ninth Street, a garage and a vacant lot.

LUVERNE – An Adrian man received non-life threatening injuries when he rolled his 2001 Chevrolet K15 Monday on Interstate 90 shortly after 6 p.m., according to the Minnesota State Patrol. John Buckner, age 60, of Adrian, was westbound on I-90 at Highway 75 when the vehicle rolled, coming to rest on its roof. Buckner was taken to Sanford Luverne. Charges filed in Balaton arson, murder case

BALATON – Charges have been filed in Lyon County District Court against three men accused of burning down the house where Jim Hively, 75, and his wife, Cathy, 71 died Thursday. The complaint states the house was burglarized before the fire.

Charged are Derek Hexum, 20, of Balaton; Theodore Como, 18, of Marshall; and Kyle Wesselink, 21, of Tyler. All appeared in court and remain in custody.

Hexum and Como are each charged with second-degree murder, arson and armed burglary. Wesselink is charged with arson, burglary and receiving stolen property.

WORTHINGTON – The Windsurfing Regatta and Music Festival is just around the corner, and with the sailboards and breeze comes the music. This year, the event, which takes place June 12-14, will be singing a slightly different tune.

According to Ken Moser, the music is no longer ‘unvarnished’. Some bylaw changes have been made that will allow for more current or popular music.
