Red Rock Central superintendent John Brennan dead at age 65Published by on
LAMBERTON - Dr. John Brennan, who had served as superintendent at the Red Rock Central school district for the past 15 years, died overnight Tuesday at his home in Lamberton. He was 65 years old.
The cause of his death has not yet been determined.
Brennan began serving as RRC's superintendent in 1999 year after previously serving as a superintendent in Nebraska.
Under Brennan's leadership, the RRC school district has achieved consistently high academic rankings and has been ranked as one of the top schools in the nation by U.S. News and World Report for several years.
Brennan had announced last year that he planned to retire at the end of his current contract, which was slated to end on June 30. RRC hired former high school principal Bruce Olson to be its superintendent, beginning July 1, after Brennan's retirement took effect. Olson was doing on-the-job training with Brennan this year as part of the transition.
RRC school board chairman Bill Rogotzke has scheduled a special school board meeting to discuss the possibility of having Olson begin his superintendent duties earlier than July 1. That meeting will take place at 7 p.m. Monday in Lamberton.
