Southwest Crisis Center seeking help to furnish a children's roomPublished by on
WORTHINGTON - The Southwest Crisis Center is seeking the public’s help to furnish a room for children at the center. In the past when an adult came in to speak with an advocate regarding domestic violence or sexual assault, there was no place for a child to sit or play or even nap. Sometimes when a parent leaves a home in a hurry because of domestic violence, they bring nothing more than their children and the clothes on their back. A room at the crisis center has now been designated as a children’s room, but they need help furnishing it. Here at Radio Works, we decided to give them a hand in getting the word out and collecting items.
Here’s a list of items the Southwest Crisis Center is looking for to furnish the children’s room:
~ A Pack n Play type portable crib would be a wonderful addition to the children’s room. Somewhere to safely put an infant or small child down for a nap.
~ They already have a TV, DVD player and VCR for the children’s room, but they need family movies that are non-violent and suitable for ages toddler to mid-teen. DVD or VCR format will work.
~ Non-violent board games, please make sure all parts and pieces are included.
~Simple craft and art supplies to keep children occupied, including family-type color books and crayons.
~ Bean bag chairs, new or gently used toys for children infant through mid-teens.
~A Wii counsel, controller and non-violent games.
~ Socks in all kid sizes from infant to mid-teen.
~An artificial Christmas tree.
~ Gift cards to local merchants to purchase basic clothing, toys or gifts for children victims.
~Gift cards to book stores.
For more information, please contact the Southwest Crisis Center at 376-4311 or email h...@mnswcc.org. Items can also be dropped off at Radio Works at 28779 Highway 35, Worthington.
Please bring the items to Radio Works or contact the Southwest Crisis Center about delivery by October 25. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, so this is a great way to show your awareness, clean out a few gently used kid items and offer comfort to a traumatized child.
