UPDATE: Names released in Lismore crash


UPDATE: LISMORE – Lismore Rescue and the Nobles County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a broadside crash at the intersection of Minnesota 91 and Nobles County Road 16 at approximately 9:36 a.m. Tuesday to assist the Minnesota State Patrol with an accident with injuries.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a 2003 Ford pickup driven by 60-year-old Mark Holtz of Magnolia was traveling south on Minnesota 91 with passenger Richard Soules, 51, of Bigelow. SPIRIT LAKE, Iowa - Officials on Monday recovered a body at the scene of the Hill Avenue Apartments fire. The name of the victim has not been released. Lieutenant Rodney Baker of the Spirit Lake Police Department said the body has been sent to the State Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy and positive identification. Baker says after the body is identified, they'll know whether or not it is the person who was still unaccounted for following Sunday's fire that completely leveled the 25-unit apartment building at 1514 Hill Avenue.

Charges filed, bail set in Rock County shooting case


LUVERNE – Bail was set at $30,000 with conditions for 19-year-old Ryan Joseph Kruger of Luverne, who was formally charged Monday in Rock County District Court with use of deadly force against a peace officer, fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle and fourth-degree assault against a peace officer.

Krueger was involved in a high-speed chase with authorities Thursday and ended up being wounded by a deputy’s bullet when he almost backed over two of them who had approached to make a felony arrest.

SPIRIT LAKE, Iowa - Fire destroyed a Spirit Lake apartment building on Sunday. The Spirit Lake Fire Department was called to Hill Avenue Apartments at right around noon and found the entire building engulfed in flames. Mutual aid was requested from the Arnolds Park-Okoboji, Superior, Milford and Lake Park Fire Departments.

The initial call came into the Dickinson County Communications Center as a report of a fire in a kitchen in one of the apartments. Another call a few minutes later indicated the entire building was on fire.

New CEO hired at Murray County Medical Center


SLAYTON – The Murray County Medical Center has hired a new CEO, although officially the position is now being offered through Sanford and not the medical center. Dennis Goebel has accepted the position and is scheduled to start Feb. 2, 2015. He is currently the CEO and Administrator of St. Luke’s Home and Park Avenue Villa, a nursing home and assisted living facility in Dickinson, North Dakota.

Luverne suspect shot, wounded during high speed pursuit


LUVERNE – A Rock County Deputy shot a suspect Thursday evening after a high speed pursuit, wounding 19-year-old Ryan Joseph Krueger. Krueger was treated and released from the Sanford Luverne Emergency Room and is currently in custody in the Nobles County Jail.

According to a state issued by Rock County Sheriff Evan Verbrugge, the deputy has been put on administrative leave pending results of an investigation into the discharge of his firearm, which is standard protocol.

LUVERNE - At approximately 8:30 pm Thursday, the Rock County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Adrian Police Department with a high speed pursuit that ended in Rock County with an officer involved shooting. The driver, Ryan Joseph Krueger, age 19 of Luverne received non-life threatening injuries in the incident. Krueger was treated and released from the Sanford ER and is in custody pending Felony Fleeing and Assault charges.

WORTHINGTON – The Nobles County Commissioners Tuesday evening conducted the annual Truth in Taxation meeting, presenting to the public the budget and levy information for the upcoming year.

The commissioners set a not-to-exceed levy of 7.6 percent in September and have whittled that down further, presenting a 2015 budget that calls for a 5.98 percent levy increase over 2014, with an overall levy of $12,096,602. Proposed expenses for 2015 are estimated at $26.9 million, with revenues projected at more than $14.8 million.

SLAYTON – Glenn “Corky” Kluis was sworn in Tuesday morning as the District 4 Murray County Commissioner to fill the vacancy created when Chairman John Giese died November 16. Kluis had been elected to the position in November and would have taken office in January.
