DNR launches Eagle Cam

The Department of Natural Resources has launched its own streaming eagle cam, offering a 24-hour live feed of a Twin Cities nest.

Viewers now can glimpse a rare sight – there are three eggs in the nest. Eagles typically lay eggs in March, so this eagle couple, which has been in the area since about 2010, has had a tough job keeping the eggs warm, the DNR says. There is a good chance the eagles may hatch eggs this week.

Boy killed, three in critical condition after I-90 crash

WORTHINGTON – A 6-year-old boy died Saturday evening in a car crash on I-90 west of Worthington, and three others are in critical condition, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The report states a 1998 Ford Explorer driven by James Fisher, age 30 of Luverne was westbound when it went out of control and went through the median into the eastbound lanes, where it was struck broadside by a 2012 Nissan Versa. The driver of the Nissan, Kevin Bakker age 44 of Spirit Lake, Iowa, was listed in critical condition as of Sunday morning, as was infant Fisher Bakker and 27-year-old Michelle...

Twins Caravan visits Worthington

WORTHINGTON – The Twins Caravan stopped in Worthington this afternoon, bringing Ron Gardenhire, Terry Steinbach, Brian Dozier and commentator Dick Bremer to the Worthington Area YMCA for a chance to chat with fans, sign autographs and talk about the upcoming Twinsfest on January 25, 26 and 27.

The event gave area residents a chance to ask questions about the upcoming season, the feeling of stepping into the batter’s box during a major league game and the reasons behind several changes the team has made.

Making a Splash

More than 40 brave men and women jumped into the icy waters of Lake Okabena Saturday afternoon for Winterfest's Deep Freeze Dip to raise money for the Jami Cummings Learn to Swim program. The temperature hovered in the low teens all afternoon, and a chilly breeze had more than one spectator shaking their heads in amazement as the jumpers took turns leaping into the frigid water. Fundraising came up just a bit short of the $25,000 goal, but a final tally has not been reached as money is still rolling in. You can still donate and help push to the $25,000 mark!...

Fire at TAC causes evacuation

WORTHINGTON – A fire reported at 1:40 p.m. this afternoon had the Worthington Fire Department out.

All clients were evacuated immediately from the building.at the The Achievement Center for two hours fighting a blaze in the duct work of the woodshop. The fire department used their aerial truck to get water down inside the venting of the building.

SLAYTON – More than seven thousand solar panels began producing power Friday in Slayton after being connected to Xcel Energy’s distribution system, according to renewable power developer Ecos Energy. The solar array is the largest in the state, with 2 megawatts of output, the equivalent of the power used by 250 homes.

The project has 32 rows of solar panels covering an area the size of 7 1/2 football fields on what once was a cornfield.

Congratulations to Estee Cregeen and Kham Muonkhot of Jackson. They are the parents of the first baby of 2013 at Sanford Worthington Medical Center.

Kaizen Tien was born at 6:32 a.m. Tuesday, and he came in a hurry, according to his mom. She arrived at the hospital at 6:06 a.m. and was a new mommy less than half an hour later. Estee hadn’t anticipated having a New Years baby - Kaizen wasn’t due until January 6.

Buffalo Ridge Drug Task Force arrests 13 in Fulda, charges filed

The Buffalo Ridge Drug Task Force executed six search warrants, in the city of Fulda, two on Friday, December 7, 2012 and four on Tuesday December 11, 2012. As a result of the investigations, the BRDTF arrested thirteen adults, placed two children in protective custody, and seized methamphetamine, cocaine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, cash, and other miscellaneous items. Several consent searches were also conducted as a result of the search warrant activities. All of the activities were part of ongoing investigations.
