2013 Worthington Winterfest

It's this weekend: the 2013 Worthington Winterfest! Stay tuned for details on a variety of events, such as the YMCA Healthy Heart Walk/Run, the Deep Freeze Dip, and 3-on-3 Pond Hockey Tournament!

In conunction with Winterfest comes your Winterfest Medallion Hunt! UPDATE: THE MEDALLION HAS BEEN FOUND! Anyone planning on doing some Winterfest Medallion searching today will be searching in vain – the medallion was found Thursday morning by Worthington resident Angela Clausen.

Angela found the medallion at Centennial Park in a bush near the bridge. She said she walked right past it the first time, then turned to go back and saw something green. She picked it up and was both pleased and surprised to discover the item she had picked up was indeed the coveted medallion. Angela said she found the medallion right around 8 oclock this morning. She has been listening to the clues all week, but today was the first time she went out looking this year.

There were a few other people around while she was searching, she said, so she held the medallion up and yelled, "I found it, I found it!"

Congratulations to Angela, who earned $100 in Worthington Area Chamber bucks with her insightful sleuthing. She isn't quite sure yet what she will do with her sudden windfall. See below for the clues leading to her discovery!

"There’s a ditch nearby, A trail, bridge and shrub. In the season of summer, You can pick up some grub." - Winterfest Medallion Clue Number 4

"The search is nearly over As you probably can tell. It’s a foot race to discover Where the medallion does dwell." - Winterfest Medallion Clue Number 3.

"Where have you searched, So far in this quest? Try looking in a park, I believe that would be best." - Winterfest Medallion Clue Number 2.

"We’re frozen and fabulous because winter is here and finding the medallion will bring you some cheer. Is your curious bone itchy? Well, this I will say… Don’t go too far from water that would lead you astray." -Winterfest Medallion Clue Number 1

If you find the medallion, please go the Chamber office or call 372-2919. The person to find the medallion will win $100 in Chamber checks!

The crowning of Worthington’s Winterfest Queen is at 2:45 p.m. in Sunset Park, as jumpers get physically and psychologically ready to take their leap into the frigid waters of Lake Okabena for the Deep Freeze Dip. More than 40 people have signed up so far to take the plunge, all to raise money for the Jami Cummings Learn to Swim Program. Deep Freeze Dip event coordinator and Radio Works' own Chad Cummings will be taking the plunge - contact him to donate today and come watch him execute his signature belly flop into Lake Okabena at 3 p.m. at Sunset Park (along the southwest side of Lake Ocheda).

Following the jump this year, all jumpers will be encouraged to stop by the Worthington Travelodge, where the hot tub and swimming pool will be available free of charge for them to warm up. In addition, a reception for the jumpers will be offered at 5 p.m. at the Hickory Lodge.
