Jami Jam Poker Run to support Camp High Hopes


OKOBOJI, Iowa – The fourth annual Jami Jam Poker Run will be on Saturday, August 22, in its charitable support of mental health and disability causes. Organizer Jeremy Thielen has selected Camp High Hopes in Sioux City, Iowa as the recipient of the funds raised. Camp High Hopes offers traditional camp experiences to intellectually and physically disabled.

Thielen started the Jami Jam Poker Run in honor of his sister Jami, who began experiencing symptoms of mental illness her sophomore year of high school and passed away in 2012.

Long range committee approves recomendation to decommission Prairie View Golf Course


WORTHINGTON - The Prairie View Golf Course Long Range Planning Committee approved a motion Wednesday morning to recommend to the Worthington City Council that the course be decommissioned and that maximum water quality construction get underway to remove Total Suspended Solids and Total Phosphorus.

WORTHINGTON – New this year at the Nobles County Fair, a camper will be set up at the fairgrounds from Wednesday through Sunday for mothers to have a comfortable, private area for breastfeeding. The trailer will be stationed between the Grandstand and Pioneer Village. Meghan Trainor cancels remainder of tour due to medical concerns


ST. PAUL - Meghan Trainor has canceled the remainder of her tour, including the Sept. 1 appearance at the Minnesota State Fair Grandstand due to ongoing medical concerns. Trainor's Instagram account detailed the news this morning citing a vocal cord hemorrhage.

Worthington Regional Health Care Foundation presents check to District 518 for golf teams


WORTHINGTON – During the Worthington Regional Health Care Foundation Golf Tournament in July, two member of the Worthington High School Boys’ Golf Team stationed themselves at Hole 6 and offered each golfer a chance a bit of an advantage. For a small fee, Will Mulder or Ben Koepsel would tee off for them from a better location. The foundation then matched the money that was raised.

UPDATE: Semi rolls at roundabout


WORTHINGTON - A semi truck and trailer headed north on US 60 rolled at the Nobles County 35 roundabout this morning at approximately 8 a.m., according to the Minnesota State Patrol. The driver, 37-year-old Bezpyatko Lyubov of Schiller Park, Illinois, was not hurt in the crash, but her passenger, 35-year-old Hromyak Ihor, also of Schiller Park, suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Sanford Worthington Medical Center.

The state patrol report says Lyubov lost control of the 2012 Volvo semi and rolled. The semi was totaled.

WORTHINGTON – The Cruisin’ Downtown event is just around the corner in Worthington. On Tuesday afternoon, 10th Street in downtown will be blocked off from 5th Avenue to 2nd Avenue beginning at 2 p.m. The event begins at 4 p.m. and continues until 7 p.m., and everyone is invited to bring in their cool cars, tractors or motorcycles, entering at 5th Avenue. Mick’s Repair staff and other volunteers will be on hand to help with directions and parking.

WORTHINGTON – It’s a common enough scam, but people fall for it. Yesterday in Worthington, local H&R Block franchise owner Carolee Anderson said she started receiving calls right away in the morning from people who had been threatened by the Internal Revenue Service.

According to Anderson, clients were getting phone calls from a computer generated voice that stated the taxpayer was being sued by the IRS. A live person would be monitoring the call and would possibly break into the recording, which would be stating that the call was the “last and final warning.”
