7,500 turkeys lost in fire in Lorain Township


WORTHINGTON – Approximately 7,500 5-week-old turkeys were killed during a fire that started overnight at the Meyer Turkey Farm at 2679 Town Avenue, according to Round Lake Fire Chief Mike Smith.

The Round Lake Fire Department was called out at 12:54 a.m. for a turkey barn fire in the early morning hours Tuesday in Lorain Township. When they arrived on the scene, they found the barn fully engulfed and flames shooting out the top, Smith said. MADELIA — A 16-year-old boy from Butterfield was killed Saturday when he was ejected from a vehicle during a rollover that took place at 10:10 p.m. near mile marker 80 on Minnesota 60 in Watonwan County.

A 17-year-old male from Butterfield, as yet unnamed by the Minnesota State Patrol, was driving a 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser westbound when the vehicle entered the center median and the vehicle rolled multiple times. Two people were ejected from the vehicle, which came to rest upside down.

MSP releases names of two injured in Fulda crash


FULDA – The Minnesota State Patrol has released the name of two people injured mid-day Friday in a crash just outside of Fulda.

According to the report, two vehicles were traveling southbound on U.S. 59 when a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Rory Hoium, age 23, of Albert Lea, was rear-ended by a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer driven by Gerlad Ossefoort, age 64, of Fulda. Both Ossefoort and Hoium received non-life threatening injuries.

The crash took place at 12:24 p.m. The Murray County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.

SPIRIT LAKE, Iowa - The Iowa State Medical Examiner on Thursday released the identity of a body discovered after Sunday’s fire at the Hill Avenue Apartments Building in Spirit Lake. Authorities said the victim of the fire is identified as 48-year-old Edwin Dowd.

The Spirit Lake Fire Department recovered his body in the debris on Monday. Two other residents were treated for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the blaze has been ruled as undetermined by the State Fire Marshal's Office due to the extensive damage to the structure.

LISMORE – Lismore Rescue and the Nobles County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a broadside crash at the intersection of Minnesota 91 and Nobles County Road 16 at approximately 9:36 a.m. Tuesday to assist the Minnesota State Patrol with an accident with injuries.

UPDATE: Charges dropped against Sioux Falls man arrested for kidnapping in Worthington


WORTHINGTON - Charges against Sean Edward Harris, 31, of Sioux Falls, S.D., were dropped in February after lack of cooperation from the victim, according to court documents.

A charge of false imprisonment was filed against Harris in December 2014 after he allegedly held his girlfriend and child against their will.

According to court documents, the victim failed to respond to contact from officials and may be living in another state.
