Canby Minnesota West Campus reopened after bomb threat shut down voting
Published by onCANBY – Authorities today evacuated a polling place at Minnesota West Community and Technical College – Canby Campus after an alleged bomb threat written on the wall of a women’s restroom. According to Amber Luinenburg, Coordinator of Communications, Marketing, & Advertising Minnesota West Community & Technical College, local law enforcement was called to the campus, and the Minneapolis bomb squad consulted about the situation.
The evacuation began around noon today, and voting was shut down until shortly after 1 p.m. while the school was swept for anything that may be considered an explosive.
According to one report, the threat stated there was a bomb in the school. The message was found by an election official, who contacted authorities. Police and fire personnel responded, quickly evacuating a four-block radius around campus and the polling place, which is inside a building adjacent to the main college building.
Luinenberg said the message will be investigated, which may lead to expulsion or termination of the person who wrote the threat.
