National FFA Week

Each year, FFA chapters around the country celebrate National FFA Week. The week-long tradition began in 1947 when the National FFA Board of Directors designated the week of George Washington's birthday as National FFA Week in recognition of his legacy as an agriculturist and farmer. The first National FFA Week was held in 1948. Today, FFA Week always runs Saturday to Saturday and encompasses Feb. 22, Washington's birthday.

MCGA President Responds to Buffer Strips Proposal

SHAKOPEE, Minn. (Jan. 16, 2015) – The following is a statement from Bruce Peterson, a farmer in Northfield and President of the Minnesota Corn Growers Association, on Gov. Dayton’s plan to propose 50-feet of buffer strips along all Minnesota waterways:

Holiday Hours

Due to the holidays, the Minnesota Soybean Processors of Brewster bean receiving will be closing at 12:00 p.m. on December 31st, and closed on January 1st. Normal hours will resume January 2nd.

On December 31st at Poet Ashton, corn receiving will run from 7:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. Co-products load-out will go from 7:30 a.m. to noon. On New Year's Day, Poet Ashton will be closed.

The futures markets (CME) will also observe the holiday. On Wednesday, December 31st, markets will close as normal. On New Year's Day, Thursday, January 1st, markets will be closed with no overnight session...

Optimistic Propane Forecast

The propane industry reported a positive winter outlook as officials met to brief governors at the Midwestern Governor’s Association Propane Meeting in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Wednesday.

Last week, the U.S. Energy Information Administration released its Short-Term Energy and Winter Fuels Outlook. The report projected warmer winter temperatures and a 34 percent reduction in heating bills for propane-heated homes in the Midwest this season compared with last winter.
