Weekly "Bingo Night"
It's "Bingo Night" every Tuesday evening at the Reading Community Center! Doors open at 6 p.m. and games begin at 7 p.m. with a payout of over $900 each week! Play 26 games each night! The Reading Community Center uses profits from Bingo to help keep the doors open for community groups to utilize, such as the Elk Tip Toppers 4-H club, Reading First Responders, Reading Booster Club, and other groups.The Reading community center is a 501c3 organization.
Anyone that is divorced, divorcing, separated, or ending a long term relationship is invited to Divorce Care for Adults and Divorce Care for Kids Sunday evenings from 5:30PM until 7:30PM at the Hope Reformed Church in Spencer. Participants must pre-register Monday through Thursday by calling 712-262-3016 anytime between 9AM and 3:30PM.
Nixle - Public Safety System
Nixle is a community information service via the Worthington Police Department dedicated to helping you stay connected to the information that matters most to you. You can receive alerts for closed roads, weather alerts, safety alerts, missing persons, general notifications, special events, canvassing witnesses for leads and other evidence. To sign up, visit the City of Worthington Public Safety webpage.
Come dance to big band sound music at the Spirit Lake Senior Center from 2 to 5 p.m. every last Sunday of each month (weather permitting). Potluck snacks will be featured at intermission. Everyone is welcome!
Senior Dining Volunteers
Lutheran Social Service Senior Dining is currently looking for volunteers. They are in need of individuals to deliver meals to home bound seniors, or pack up and get them ready for delivery. We have three routes with approximately 15 meals per route. The time commitment would be anywhere from 30-60 minutes depending on the task. We can work with any schedule, whether it is once a week or once a month the help is needed. If you could help in this capacity call Kris at the Center for Active Living at 376-6457.
Free Dental Implants
Mission Outreach a division of Four Square Enterprises is offering free dental implants by a licensed dentist here in Minnesota for qualified applicants that are seeking employment but are lacking the confidence and self esteem needed. Junior Achievement Volunteers Needed
The Business Education Committee is still seeking volunteers to teach Junior Achievement. They are in need of (5) kindergarten volunteers, (4) first grade volunteers, (1) third grade volunteer and (1) fourth grade volunteer. August 27-30 - Annual Corn Show
The Annual Corn Show is coming up in Little Rock! Festivities start Thursday through Sunday, with the theme "Looking Back at Life in a Small Town." Food stands are available Thursday through Saturday at the old city hall. Check out the crop, produce and flower displays, exhibit booths, bingo, carnival rides, tournaments, corn show parade and more!
August 28 - Pat Lang Fundraiser
You are invited to a fundraiser Friday August 28th at PD’s Bar in Rushmore to help raise funds to differ medical expenses for Pat Lang. The fun starts at 6pm until gone with a burger and hot dog feed, silent auction items including 100lbs of pork, and possible bean bag tournament. The Friends of Pat Lang invite you to come support Pat and family in his battle! The food and fun starts Friday August 28th at 6PM at PD’s in Rushmore!
August 29 - Corn off the Cob Variety Show
It's the Corn Off the Cob Variety Show 2015, featuring lots of local talent in music, comedy, dance, and toe tapping fun at the Worthington Memorial Auditorium at 7 p.m. Be sure to come early for the FOTA Corn on the Cob Fundraiser Feed, featuring sweet corn, grilled hot dogs and more from 5 to 7 p.m. Cost is only $5 per person (free to Friends members).
August 30 - Murray County Senior Citizens Fundraiser
The Murray County Senior Citizens Fundraiser will be held Sunday, August 30th from 11 to 1 p.m. at the Slayton Senior Community Center. Serving includes Hardee's roast beef sandwiches, pulled pork sandwiches, salads and bars. All proceeds help support Murray County Senior Citizen Activities! Questions, call 507-836-6648.
August 31 - American Red Cross Blood Mobile
An American Red Cross Blood Drive will be held August 31st at the Fulda Area Credit Union from noon to 6 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome, otherwise you can sign up online at www.redcrossblood.org or by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS.
August 31 - Trip to the MN State Fair Senior Day
Join Worthington District 518 Community Education on their annual trip to the MN State Fair for Senior Day on Monday, August 31st.. Even though this trip is on the day that the “Great Minnesota Get-Together” honors those 65 and up, this trip is for anyone that wants to ride along with a great bunch of people, view exhibits, listen to a variety of stage shows, and eat a lot of tasty treats! Departure is from the Worthington Shopko parking lot at 6:30 a.m. and return at approximately 10:30 p.m. All meals and shopping are on your own. Price to go along for the day is only $45 – includes entrance fee and bus ride. Registration and payment is due on Friday, August 21. September 2 - MNWest Fall Student Kickoff Day
Minnesota West Community & Technical College Worthington Campus will be hosting a Fall Student Kickoff Day on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 for all students on the Worthington Campus. Area businesses and organizations are invited to have a free booth on campus from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. during the kickoff on Wednesday, September 2nd. This day is designed as a day to connect students to campus resources and introduce them to the resources, businesses and amenities in the Worthington area. September 3-7 - Sheldon Celebration Days
It's the Sheldon Celebration Days September 3rd through the 7th! Bring the family out and enjoy the free Movie in the Park, Zumba, mini rod tractor pulls, Dueling Pianos, Community Theatre performances, pancake breakfast, classic car cruise, plus the 5K run/walk and 10K run, parade, inflatables and more! September 6 - Immanuel Lutheran Church Anniversary Celebration
The Immanuel Lutheran Church of Fulda will celebrate its 125th anniversary on Sunday, September 6th. Worship is at 10:30 a.m. with a catered noon meal at a cost of $10 (RSVP to Jan at 507-425-2266). There will also be old fashioned games, trivia, entertainment, and much more in the afternoon.
September 12 - 15th Annual Sportsman's Banquet
On September 12th, Sheldon First Reformed Church will be host their 15th Annual Sportsman’s Banquet at Northwest Iowa Community College’s LLRC.Tickets are available through September 6th at Citizen’s State Bank, Downtown Hardware, Ron Drenkow Motors, or by contacting the First Reformed Church at 324-2130. Cost is $15 for adults and $10 for children 14 and under. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. This year’s banquet will feature outdoor industry favorite Jason Cruise. Dozens of prizes and guns have been donated so spread the word and invite your friends!
September 12 - Annual Sibley Kiwanis Golf Tournament
- It’s time for the 26th Annual Sibley Kiwanis Golf Tournament on Saturday, September 12th beginning at noon. Cost is $125 per couple and includes 9 or 18 holes of golf, a t-shirt, plus dinner at the banquet following the tournament. A number of HUGE hole-in-one prizes will be offered on the first 9 holes. September 12 - Grape Stomp Event
Join Round Lake Vineyards & Winery for their first Grape Stomp Even on September 12th. Entry fee is $25.00 per team and entry fee per grape stomp team includes a t-shirt and a smashing good time! More details to come on their website and facebook page! Pre-register to reserve your t-shirt.
September 13 - Fulda Heritage Society Open House Fundraiser
The Fulda Heritage Society is hosting an open house fundraiser on Sunday, September 13th from 11 to 4 p.m. on the Fulda Depot lot. Enjoy lunch from 11 to 4 p.m., featuring hot dogs, chips, bars and beverages for a free will donation. Be sure to tour the building, purchase your memorabilia, and learn about past and present projects. Want to become a member? Dues are just $10!
September 18 - KTD Kiddie & Pet Parade
United Way of Nobles County will be sponsoring a Kiddie & Pet Parade at the Nobles County Fairgrounds in conjunction with King Turkey Day on Friday, September 18th. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. and the parade will start at 6:00 p.m. Cost is $5.00 per entry and entries will be judged in 3 divisions: most creative pet, best costume and best decorated bicycle. Each division will have a 1st place winner & runner up. Prizes are sponsored by JBS. To pre-register contact the United Way of Nobles County office at 507-372-7541. All funds raised will assist with bringing the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to Nobles County.
September 19 - KTD 5K Walk and 10K Run
Sign up today for the 2015 King Turkey Day 5K Walk or 10K Race. The 5K Walk will start at 8:30 a.m. with check-in/registration beginning at 7:45 a.m. and will take place at the Center for Active Living located at 2nd Avenue and 11th Street, in Downtown Worthington. Registration fee is $15.00/person before September 8th. Event fee includes a Turkey Day 5k long-sleeved t-shirt and post-walk refreshments. The 10K Race will begin at 10:00 a.m. T-shirt & packet pickup will be Friday from 5-8 p.m. in the Worthington YMCA (this is recommended) or Saturday morning from 8:45 – 9:45 a.m. at the corner of 6th Avenue & 10th Street. September 19 - Love and Theft
King Turkey Day is excited to be sponsoring “Love & Theft” at this year’s King Turkey Day on Saturday, September 19th, 2015 at the Worthington Hockey Arena on the Nobles County Fairgrounds. Tickets will go on-sale on July 20th via the King Turkey Day website and the Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce office. Prices will be $15 in advance (plus handling fees if ordering online) and $20 the day of the show. September 20 - Annual St. Adrian Fall Dinner
You're invited to the annual St. Adrian Fall Dinner on Sunday, September 20th from 4 to 7 p.m. in Adrian. Serving includes a roast beef dinner, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, coleslaw, buns, desserts and beverages. Cost for adults is $8, children 6-12 $4 and children 2-5 $2. September 26 - Wilmont's Oktoberfest
Wilmont's Annual Oktoberfest returns Saturday, September 26th with vendors, beer, food, and more! An adult bean bag tournament starts at 1 p.m., with a KidsFest beginning at 2 p.m. Be sure to check out the music entertainment, with the Larry Olsen Polka Band from 2 to 6 p.m., and IV Play from 8 to 12:30 p.m. For old fashioned fun, music, carnival games, inflatables, potato sack races and more, head to Oktoberfest in Wilmont!
