ONGOING EVENTS

Weekly "Bingo Night" 
It's "Bingo Night" every Tuesday evening at the Reading Community Center! Doors open at 6 p.m. and games begin at 7 p.m. with a payout of over $900 each week! Play 26 games each night! The Reading Community Center uses profits from Bingo to help keep the doors open for community groups to utilize, such as the Elk Tip Toppers 4-H club, Reading First Responders, Reading Booster Club, and other groups.The Reading community center is a 501c3 organization.

Divorce Care
Anyone that is divorced, divorcing, separated, or ending a long term relationship is invited to Divorce Care for Adults and Divorce Care for Kids Sunday evenings from 5:30PM until 7:30PM at the Hope Reformed Church in Spencer.  Participants must pre-register Monday through Thursday by calling 712-262-3016 anytime between 9AM and 3:30PM.

Nixle - Public Safety System
Nixle is a community information service via the Worthington Police Department dedicated to helping you stay connected to the information that matters most to you. You can receive alerts for closed roads, weather alerts, safety alerts, missing persons, general notifications, special events, canvassing witnesses for leads and other evidence. Senior Dances
Come dance to big band sound music at the Spirit Lake Senior Center from 2 to 5 p.m. every last Sunday of each month (weather permitting). Potluck snacks will be featured at intermission. Everyone is welcome!

Senior Dining Volunteers
Lutheran Social Service Senior Dining is currently looking for volunteers. They are in need of individuals to deliver meals to home bound seniors, or pack up and get them ready for delivery. We have three routes with approximately 15 meals per route. The time commitment would be anywhere from 30-60 minutes depending on the task. We can work with any schedule, whether it is once a week or once a month the help is needed. If you could help in this capacity call Kris at the Center for Active Living at 376-6457.

Free Dental Implants
Mission Outreach a division of Four Square Enterprises is offering free dental implants by a licensed dentist here in Minnesota for qualified applicants that are seeking employment but are lacking the confidence and self esteem needed. Worthington Farmers' Market
The Worthington Farmers Market is now in full swing. Shop for fresh, local produce and homemade goods on Tuesdays from 4 – 7 p.m. at the parking lot at Second Avenue and 10th Street in downtown Worthington and on Saturdays from 6:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Ace Hardware on Oxford Street. The market continues each week through the growing season. Stop by each week and see what is new!

July 27-July 31 - WCC VBS

The Worthington Christian Church invites you to attend "Weird Animals" Vacation Bible School from Sunday, July 27th through Thursday, July 31st from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. This is for students who have completed kindergarten through fifth grade. Please pre-register by calling 507-376-3418. Join us for supper starting at 5:30 p.m. each night.

July 28 - Club Scout Awards Ceremony (Pack 14)

Worthington has a brand new Scouting group, Pack 14! The pack’s charter will be presented to First Evangelical Lutheran Church on July 28 at 7pm. Members of the community are invited to attend the pack’s first awards ceremony and learn more about what the pack will be doing this summer and fall. Cub Scouts is an exciting, family-oriented, and fun program for boys age 7-11 years old that promotes character development, leadership, and physical fitness. All boys in the Worthington area are welcome to join Pack 14 and can get started with Cub Scouts at any time. For more information, please call local Scout leader Steve Schempp at 507-295-9023.

July 31 - Lunch and Learn
Join us for a Lunch and Learn with the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce and Social Media Breakfast Rural Connection on July 31st from 12 to 1 p.m. at the Jackson Pizza Ranch. Featured presentation will be hosted by Dave Vogel with Explore MN. RSVP by calling 507-847-3867.

July 31-August 4 - Vietnam War Traveling Memorial Display
The traveling memorial for the Vietnam War will be in Rock Rapids, Iowa on display from July 31 through August 4th 24-hours a day at the Courthouse Square. This is a half scale replica of the memorial in Washington, D.C. and its construction and display has been funded solely by private donations.

August 1-3 - Annual Farmers Appreciation Days
The 30th Annual Farmer Appreciation Days returns to Lake Park! Friday night, enjoy golf fun at the Silver Lake Country Club (4-person, best ball tournament). Saturday, it's the Emersonbiguns for the Cure 5K Run/Walk and 1-Mile Fun Walk, craft fair, watermelon feed, bake sale, softball tournaments, and street dance. Then Sunday, enjoy the fifth annual farmers' appreciation tractor ride and the Lake Park Fireman's Cruise in and supper. All forms and more information is available at lakeparkia.com

August 2 - OLGCS Fund Tractor Cruise
The 2014 Our Lady of Good Council School Fund Tractor Cruise is coming up Saturday, August 2nd. To participate, apply with the required $200 fundraising fee, and have a tractor within the requirements of the ride (available upon request). A preview display period runs from 9 to 10:30 a.m. with the route starting at Pioneer Village. Enjoy a pork loin meal after the ride. Not a driver but want the experience? Wagon riders can apply to ride in a hay wagon along the cruise route for $30 per person, or $60 per family (includes coffee break and pork loin meal). For more information, call 507-360-4793.

August 3 - Fulda Fish & Game Club Fundraiser
The Fulda Fish & Game Club is hosting a fundraising breakfast from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Sunday, August 3 at the Fulda Community Center to fund the new aerators for the Fulda lake. Menu will be pancakes, French toast, sausage, juice and coffee. Suggested donation is $8 for adults, $4 for children 10 and under.

August 4 - Annual Prairie Steak Fry
The Prairie Ecology Bus Center and Jackson/Cottonwood County Cattlemen Association present the 7th annual Prairie Steak Fry on August 4th at the Heron Lake Community Center. A silent auction and social hour starts at 5 p.m. with a steak dinner and live auction to follow. Dinner tickets are $15 in advance (not available at the door) with wine wall tickets sold in advance AND at the door. To order tickets, call 507-662-5064.

August 5 - Heroes Behind the Badges Blood Drive
Worthington / Nobles County Law Enforcement and Worthington Fire Department / EMS will be competing to see who can recruit the most blood donors to boost the summer blood supply for the community in the 8th Annual “Heroes Behind the Badges” blood drive. The friendly competition between the departments will take place at Sanford Worthington on Tuesday, August 5 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 3 to 6:30 p.m. The public is encouraged to come donate and designate their donation to the department of their choice. All donors will receive a special t-shirt and a free Subway lunch. The department credited with the most blood donations will receive a trophy and bragging rights for a year. Please bring an ID. August 6-7 - Joe Williams Wrestling Camp
Joe Williams is hosting a camp on Wednesday, August 6th at the West Lyon High School in Inwood, Iowa. Registration goes from 9 to 10 a.m. with pre-registrations due July 30th. This camp will emphasize skills such as chain wrestling, various scoring holds, and the nonstop offense that many competitors fear. Joe will break down each step in the wrestling techniques and explain the WHY’s and the HOW’s, so you the athletes will be better educated and hit the right moves when it counts. August 6-10 - Nobles County Fair
The Nobles County Fair returns to the Noble County Fairgrounds. Bring the family to enjoy a full carnival from Thursday through Sunday, (pre-purchase carnival tickets available at W-2s, Hy-Vee, Radio Works, and Bob & Steve's) with grandstand events Friday through Sunday. Check out the 4-H and open class entries throughout the days. Be sure to mark it down for the Annual MK 5K Run/Walk on Thursday evening. August 7 - MK 5K Run/Walk
The MK 5K Run and Family Fun Walk returns for another year on Thursday, August 7th to the Nobles County Fairgrounds. Cost is $12 if pre-registered by August 1st, with late registration $15. Registration/check-in the night-of begins at 6 p.m. with the race time slated to start at 7 p.m. Proceeds go towards the Mary Kay Foundation. More details and the registration form here

August 8-10 - Ocheyedan's Days of Olde
It's guaranteed good family fun for everyone at Ocheyedan's Days of Olde August 8-10th. On Friday, enjoy tractor pulls and movie night. Saturday is full of events with a 5K run/walk, parade, wine and arts festival, antique tractor pull, kids' inflatables, house museum, baseball tournament, wine competition, truck pulls and a street dance. Then Sunday, be sure you're registered for the bean bag tournament in the afternoon. It's the Ocheyedan's Days of Olde!

August 11 - Historic Dayton House Anniversary Picnic
Join in for a good old-fashioned summer picnic celebrating the 10th anniversary of the restoration of the Historic Dayton House. Enjoy bbq pork sandwiches, potato salad, baked beans, sweet treats and ice cold beverages. Cost is $15 per person. For tickets, call the Dayton House at 507-727-1311. August 13 - Area-Wide Block Party
Worthington's American Reformed Church will host the Area-Wide Block Party on Wed., August 13 from 5:30-7:30 PM. The event features a kiddie tractor pull, an inflatable bounce house, kiddie train rides, tractor hay rides, motorcycle rides, BINGO, free food, music and devotions. Come out for a fun night to connect with the community!

August 16-17 - Butterfield Steam & Gas Engine Show
The 2014 Butterfield Steam and Gas Engine Show is coming back for a 48th year at Butterfield's Voss Park. Cost is $8 for adults (good for both days) with children under 13 free. Check out the steam engines and antique tractors, with a special Nash and Rambler vehicle display. Continuous entertainment on stage from Friday through Sunday will feature outstanding bluegrass bands, with an open air church service on Sunday at 9 a.m.

August 23 - Annual Jamie Torkelson Memorial Run
The 10th Annual Jamie Torkelson Memorial Run will take place on Saturday, August 23rd at the Windom Phat Pheasant Pub. Bikes, trikes, anything on wheels are all invited. Registration starts at 10 a.m. with kickstands up at noon sharp (ride is approximately 120 miles). Cost is $15 per person. Registration includes food, music, and door prizes, with a grand prize of a 2014 Street Glide Harley! Stay for music by Judd Hoos and the 20-year reunion of the 1994 Junior Gold State Championship Hockey Team. All proceeds go towards the Windom Youth Hockey Association. August 24 - Worship by the Water
American Reformed Church invites you to "Worship by the Water" on Sun., August 24 at 10:00 AM at the Chautauqua Park band shell. Come for an informal worship experience with an inspiring message and contemporary music. A free meal will be served following the worship service. Everyone is welcome!

August 24 - Cancer Benefit for Kathy Bauermeister
A cancer benefit for Kathy Bauermeister will be held on Sunday, August 24th at the Heron Lake-Okabena Elementary School from 9 to 1 p.m. Enjoy a pancake breakfast with sausage, eggs, fruit and a beverage for a free-will donation. Items will also be collected for a silent auction.

September 6 - Wilmont's Annual Oktoberfest
The City of Wilmont's Annual Oktoberfest is back for another year on Saturday, September 6th in Wilmont! Enjoy music from Lake Benton's Larry Olsen Polka Band from 2 to 6 p.m., with Hicktown Mafia wrapping up the night from 8 to midnight. Don't miss out on the old-fashioned fun carnival games and prizes from 2-5 p.m.! Vendors will be on site, so come hungry. For more information, check out the Wilmont Oktoberfest facebook page.

September 8 - SW MN American Red Cross Golf Tournament Fundraiser
The Southwest Minnesota American Red Cross will be holding its First Annual Golf Tournament Fundraiser on Monday, September 8th at the Prairie View Golf Course. Registration will start at 2:30 p.m. with a 3:30 p.m. shotgun start and 6:30 p.m. dinner. Tickets will be $55.00 per person or $200.00 for a team of four. Tickets include 9 holes of golf, a cart and dinner. More information and ticket availability to come.

September 13 - KTD 5K Walk
The King Turkey Day 5K Walk is coming up Saturday, September 13th at 9 a.m. Pre-register by September 8th to guarantee your proper shirt and size at the event (featuring new for 2014 -- dri-fit long sleeve shirts!). Youth short sleeves will be avialable up until the pre-registration deadline. Cost is $15. The start time is at 9 a.m. sharp at 2nd Ave and 11th. September 21 - St. Adrian Fall Dinner
The St. Adrian Fall Dinner will be held Sunday, September 21st from 4 to 7 p.m. at the St. Adrian Church Parlor. Serving includes roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, coleslaw, buns, desserts and beverages. Cost is $8 for adults, ages 6-12 $4, and ages 2-5 $2. Take-out meals are available in Adrian between 4 and 6 p.m. There are also big ticket drawings and raffle items given away! (need not be present to win).
