ONGOING EVENTS

Weekly "Bingo Night" 
It's "Bingo Night" every Tuesday evening at the Reading Community Center! Doors open at 6 p.m. and games begin at 7 p.m. with a payout of over $900 each week! Play 26 games each night! The Reading Community Center uses profits from Bingo to help keep the doors open for community groups to utilize, such as the Elk Tip Toppers 4-H club, Reading First Responders, Reading Booster Club, and other groups.The Reading community center is a 501c3 organization.

Divorce Care
Anyone that is divorced, divorcing, separated, or ending a long term relationship is invited to Divorce Care for Adults and Divorce Care for Kids Sunday evenings from 5:30PM until 7:30PM at the Hope Reformed Church in Spencer.  Participants must pre-register Monday through Thursday by calling 712-262-3016 anytime between 9AM and 3:30PM.

Nixle - Public Safety System
Nixle is a community information service via the Worthington Police Department dedicated to helping you stay connected to the information that matters most to you. You can receive alerts for closed roads, weather alerts, safety alerts, missing persons, general notifications, special events, canvassing witnesses for leads and other evidence. Senior Dances
Come dance to big band sound music at the Spirit Lake Senior Center from 2 to 5 p.m. every last Sunday of each month (weather permitting). Potluck snacks will be featured at intermission. Everyone is welcome!

Senior Dining Volunteers
Lutheran Social Service Senior Dining is currently looking for volunteers. They are in need of individuals to deliver meals to home bound seniors, or pack up and get them ready for delivery. We have three routes with approximately 15 meals per route. The time commitment would be anywhere from 30-60 minutes depending on the task. We can work with any schedule, whether it is once a week or once a month the help is needed. If you could help in this capacity call Kris at the Center for Active Living at 376-6457.

Free Dental Implants
Mission Outreach a division of Four Square Enterprises is offering free dental implants by a licensed dentist here in Minnesota for qualified applicants that are seeking employment but are lacking the confidence and self esteem needed. Worthington Farmers' Market
The Worthington Farmers Market is now in full swing. Shop for fresh, local produce and homemade goods on Tuesdays from 4 – 7 p.m. at the parking lot at Second Avenue and 10th Street in downtown Worthington and on Saturdays from 6:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Ace Hardware on Oxford Street. The market continues each week through the growing season. Stop by each week and see what is new!

October 1-17 - Radio Works Scarecrow Contest
See Worthington decorated in autumn fun and scarecrows everywhere in your local retail businesses. You design it with your employees, and the community gets to enjoy it! All businesses that wish to enter need to have their scarecrows on display by October 17th and they can stay up as long as you wish. A community voting panel will judge your scarecrow design shortly after the 18th. Winners will be announced on air October 21st. To sign up, contact the Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce at 507-372-2919, or Radio Works at 507-376-6165. Join in the fun! Chamber Checks will be awarded for the top two community scarecrows!

October 16 - Nobles County Library Haunted Pirate Ship
Join the crew on the Nobles County Library Haunted Pirate Ship on Thursday, October 16th. A number of times are available: 9:30-11 a.m., 12:00-1:30 p.m., or 2:00-3:30 p.m. Times will also be offered on Friday, October 17th at 12:00-1:30 p.m., or 2 to 3:30 p.m. Call 507-295-5340 to register. Be sure to wear your Halloween costume!

October 17 - Flag Dedication Ceremony
A Flag Dedication Ceremony will be held on Friday, October 17th at 10:30 a.m. at Freedom Veterans Memorial Park. The Flag Dedication will be in honor of Norm Larson, Alan Swanson and Lester Jensen. The flag is being donated by Congressman Tim Walz, Nobles County DFL, VFW and American Legion Honor Guards.

October 17-18 - Windom's Haunted Sghoul House
It's Windom's Haunted Sghoul House at 1012 5th Avenue, featuring the scariest haunted house around (PG 13 rating). Enter 6 levels of horror at your own risk! Cost is $10 per person. For ticket information, contact the Windom BARC. The Haunted House will be open October 17-18, October 24-25, and October 30-November 1st.

October 18 - Sassy Saturday
Sassy Saturday returns Saturday, October 18th. Enjoy sales, giveaways, food and more throughout Worthington area businesses. Enjoy donuts and juice at the kickoff at 8:30 a.m. at the Worthington Memorial Auditorium. A style show starts at 9 a.m. sharp, with the first 200 shoppers receiving a scarf and reusable Sassy Saturday goodie bag (must be 16+). Be sure to pick up your scavenger hunt sheet for your chance to win Chamber Checks and a huge gift basket! The day wraps up with a 3:00 p.m. presentation from Sanaa Abourezk cooking a healthy cuisine at the Memorial Auditorium. October 18 - Annual Pumpkin Festival
The Friends of Lake Shetek State Park and Currie Town & Country Boosters invite the public to their 9th Annual Pumpkin Festival from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Lake Shetek State Park at the Zuya Center. This a free event for families to enjoy the beautiful fall season and outdoors. There will be pumpkins for kids to pick from and decorate, face painting, hayrides around the park, roasting s’mores over an open fire, a large leaf pile to play in and a hunt for bouncy balls in the leaf pile. Cookies, cider, and juice will be served as well. The State Park requires permits for any vehicle entering the park. Daily permits are $5 or visitors can purchase a $25 annual park pass.

October 18 - Slayton Pumpkin Fest
Join the Slayton Pumpkin Fest on Saturday, October 18th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the 4-H Building on the Murray County Fairgrounds. There will be a children's costume contest, games, hay rides, face painting, hair beading, a pumpkin patch and more!

October 19 - Ham Dinner Fundraiser
The Slayton United Methodist Church invites you to its Ham Dinner on Sunday, October 19th from 11 to 1 p.m. Enjoy ham, baked potatoes, carrots, salads, and desserts along with a bake sale and lefsa sale.

October 20 - Trojettes Dance Team Try-Outs
The WHS Trojettes Dance Team invites you to their try-outs on Monday, October 20th at the Prairie Elementary School from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Everyone makes the team!

October 21 - Food Insecurity Community Discussion
The Food Bank of Iowa will host their third of five, Food for Thought: Food Insecurity in Your Community open community discussion series in Sheldon on Tuesday, October 21 at Northwest Iowa Community College from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The event will focus on food insecurity in Osceola and O’Brien Counties. October 21 - "Music Explorers" Class
Navigation Music Therapy Services will be offering an early childhood music enrichment class called “Music Explorers” starting October 21st, 9:30 – 10:00 a.m. Classes are for children ages 6 months to 5 years with a caregiver, and are taught by a board certified music therapist. October 22 - Runnings' Ladies Night
Runnings will be sponsoring a Ladies Night on Wednesday, October 22nd, 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Purchase a ladies night bucket and get 15% off whatever fits inside. October 24-25 - Worthington Relay For Life Fundraiser
Sanford Worthington Relay For Life Team Spotlight Children’s Photo Sessions will be held the afternoon of October 24 and all day October 25, 2014 at the hospital. October 25 - "A Tribute to the Eagles"
The Fabulous Armadillos and Collective Unconscious present a Tribute to the Eagles on Saturday, October 25th at the Worthington Memorial Auditorium. Music starts at 7:30 p.m.! All seats are reserved - cost is $20 in advance or $25 at the door, with children or college students $10 or $15 at the door.

October 25 - PVM Nursing Home Bake Sale
The PVM Nursing Home bake sale will be held Saturday, October 25th at the Ellsworth High School from 8 to 2 p.m. (Same day, time and place as the Fall Bazaar and Band Fundraiser). Come support a number of different organizations in one location! Questions, call Jan at 507-967-2523.

October 26 - Church Harvest Dinner
The St. Matthew Lutheran Church Harvest Dinner will be held October 26th from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Serving includes pork loin, potatoes, gravy and dressing, green beans, pies and other desserts. Cost is $8 for adults, children 3-10 $4, and children under 3 are free. Take out is also available (call 507-376-6168) along with a bake sale and card shop.

October 29 - Worthington Hospital Auxiliary Masquerade Jewelry Sale
The Worthington Hospital Auxiliary offers its Masquerade $5 Jewelry Sale on Wednesday, October 29th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the hospital lobby. Funds raised by the Auxiliary during this sale will be used to benefit patients and visitors at Sanford Worthington Medical Center.

October 29 - Windom Career Fair
The 2014 Windom Career Fair is on Wednesday, October 29th at the Windom Community Center. Students are welcome -- dress for success as there are interview opportunities -- from noon to 3 p.m., with the public event from 4 to 7 p.m. Employers represent several industry sectors, including (but not limited to) education, manufacturing, healthcare, financial, retail, and more.

October 30-November 1 - Windom's Haunted Sghoul House

October 31 - Kids' Fest
It's Kids' Fest at the Redwood Falls Assembly of God Church on Friday, October 31st from 6 to 8 p.m. Enjoy fun for the whole family, such as the corn maze, free pumpkin patch photo, games, candy, prizes, plus delicious hot dogs, nachos and cheese, fresh apple cider just $.25! October 31-November 2 - "Dracula" Performances
Minnesota West Community and Technical College Department of Theater presents Dracula October 31st (7:30), November 1st (7:30), and November 2nd (2:00). This adaptation is by Minnesota playwright Steven Dietz and restores the suspense and seduction of Bram Stoker's classic novel to the stage. All performances will take place in the Fine Arts Theater on the Worthington Campus of Minnesota West. Tickets are available at the door a half hour before curtain ($6 Adults and $4 Students).
