Weekly "Bingo Night"
It's "Bingo Night" every Tuesday evening at the Reading Community Center! Doors open at 6 p.m. and games begin at 7 p.m. with a payout of over $900 each week! Play 26 games each night! The Reading Community Center uses profits from Bingo to help keep the doors open for community groups to utilize, such as the Elk Tip Toppers 4-H club, Reading First Responders, Reading Booster Club, and other groups.The Reading community center is a 501c3 organization.
Anyone that is divorced, divorcing, separated, or ending a long term relationship is invited to Divorce Care for Adults and Divorce Care for Kids Sunday evenings from 5:30PM until 7:30PM at the Hope Reformed Church in Spencer. Participants must pre-register Monday through Thursday by calling 712-262-3016 anytime between 9AM and 3:30PM.
Nixle - Public Safety System
Nixle is a community information service via the Worthington Police Department dedicated to helping you stay connected to the information that matters most to you. You can receive alerts for closed roads, weather alerts, safety alerts, missing persons, general notifications, special events, canvassing witnesses for leads and other evidence. Come dance to big band sound music at the Spirit Lake Senior Center from 2 to 5 p.m. every last Sunday of each month (weather permitting). Potluck snacks will be featured at intermission. Everyone is welcome!
Senior Dining Volunteers
Lutheran Social Service Senior Dining is currently looking for volunteers. They are in need of individuals to deliver meals to home bound seniors, or pack up and get them ready for delivery. We have three routes with approximately 15 meals per route. The time commitment would be anywhere from 30-60 minutes depending on the task. We can work with any schedule, whether it is once a week or once a month the help is needed. If you could help in this capacity call Kris at the Center for Active Living at 376-6457.
Free Dental Implants
Mission Outreach a division of Four Square Enterprises is offering free dental implants by a licensed dentist here in Minnesota for qualified applicants that are seeking employment but are lacking the confidence and self esteem needed. Junior Achievement Volunteers Needed
The Business Education Committee is still seeking volunteers to teach Junior Achievement. They are in need of (5) kindergarten volunteers, (4) first grade volunteers, (1) third grade volunteer and (1) fourth grade volunteer. Mana Food Pantry Fund Drive
Manna Food Pantry, Inc. is once again taking part in the annual fund drive for the Manna Food Pantry. Besides the money received locally, Manna Food Pantry receives matching dollars from the statewide Minnesota FoodShare based upon a percentage of all money raised & food products donated locally compared to the total received at the state level. This year, all checks that are made out to the Worthington Regional Health Care Foundation with Manna Food Pantry, Inc. written on the memo line will also receive a 50% match from the foundation. This match is in addition to the match from MN FoodShare. This campaign will continue all of March through April 8th. March 26 - Community Virtual Dementia Tour
Community Virtual Dementia Tour – Brought to you in part by the Worthington Regional Healthcare Foundation, Nobles County Senior Concerns Committee, Community Serve and Services Development through DHS. The senior population is becoming the largest and fastest growing segment of the population in Southwest Minnesota and Northwest Iowa. This valuable, tour provides community based awareness and education to the general public, business owners, city planners and other members of the community. The tour will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Minnesota West Community & Technical College. To register call 507-376-6457.
March 26 - Hi Ho Preschool Open House
Hi Ho Preschool will host an open house on Thursday, March 26th from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Worthington Christian School. Class for 3-year-olds are held Tuesday and Thursday mornings, with 4-year-old classes held Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings or afternoons. Check out Hi Ho Preschool and get registered early, as classes fill quickly.
March 26 - David Mills Book Signing
Minnesota West Community & Technical Worthington Campus will host a book signing event and reception featuring David Mills in honor of his published book, Cold War in a Cold Land: Fighting Communism on the Northern Plains on Thursday, March 26, 2015 in the Commons on the Worthington Campus at 6:30 p.m. There will be a short presentation beginning at 6:30 p.m. followed by a book signing and reception serving refreshments and Hors d’oeuvres. March 27-28 - Feed My Starving Children Mobile Pack
Worthington is excited to be hosting a Feed My Starving Children Mobile Pack event on Friday, March 27 and Saturday, March 28. There is a great need for meals during the month, so 132,000 meals will be packed in Worthington and then shipped around the world to people in need. The 2015 Women’s Expo Health & Home Show is scheduled for Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Minnesota West Community & Technical College from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
March 28 - Pipestone Annual Spring Fling
The Pipestone County Historical Society is hosting its biggest fundraiser of the year, the seventh annual Spring Fling — a vendor fair and craft show — on March 28. The event will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Pipestone Armory. More than 30 vendors will be selling their wares, and there will be a Silent Auction. March 28 - Spring Loaded Home, Health, and Living Show
The Luverne Area Chamber is hosting a Spring Loaded Home, Health and Living Show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at participating Luverne businesses, the Blue Mound Banquet Center, Historic Palace Theatre and salons. A Spring Loaded flyer, filled with coupons, specials and information about the day will be available at all of the locations. There will be free samples, discounts and live demonstrations. Free seminars will be offered at the Historic Palace Theatre and beauty demos at salons from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is open to the public, and people can register to win one of three $100 Chamber gift cards. March 29 - Rushmore Fire & Rescue Fundraiser
The Rushmore Fire and Rescue is hosting a pancake breakfast fundraiser on Sunday, March 29th from 9 to 1 p.m. at the Rushmore School Gym. Serving includes pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, juice and coffee for a free will offering.
March 30 - Ocheyedan Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser
The Ocheyedan Fire Department is having its annual pancake breakfast fundraiser on Sunday, March 29th from 10 to 1 p.m at the Ocheyedan Town Hall. Serving includes pancakes, sausage, french toast, and scrambled eggs. All proceeds go towards new rescue equipment.
March 30 - Nobles County Corn & Soybean Growers Annual Meeting
The Nobles County Corn and Soybean Growers Annual Meeting will be held Monday, March 30th at the Worthington American Reformed Church. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with a ribeye dinner at 6 p.m., speaker Al Batt at 7 p.m. Cost is $10 in advance or $15 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at First State Bank Southwest.
March 31 - Hy-Vee Meal Solutions
Join Hy-Vee in the club room March 31st, where they will help you prepare eight entrees to feed your busy family. This class will be treated as an “open house” from 5:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. They will be offering two different meal options: Cozy (2-3 people) for $70.00 or Family (4-6 people) $130.00. Tickets must be purchased by March 26th, there will be no walk-ins accepted. Must present event ticket upon entry. To pre-register, please visit Customer Service. Remember to signify which meal option you will be preparing and what time you will be attending class.
March 31 - Books are Fun Book Fair
Sanford Worthington Medical Center will host the Books are Fun Book Fair on Tuesday, March 31st, from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. in the hospital lobby. April 1 - Sibley Men's Lenten Breakfast
The Sibley Men's Lenten Breakfast will be held on April 1st at the United Congregational, with devotions by Christian Reformed. Breakfast begins at 6:30 a.m. and takes 15 to 20 minutes with devotions lasting approximately 15 to 20 minutes. Generally, everything is completed by 7:15 a.m. There is a free will offering for the breakfast with $4.00 being suggested at each breakfast.
April 1 - Social Media Breakfast
It's another Social Media Breakfast Club meeting on Wednesday, April 1st from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Presenter will be Kristin Noble, MVTV Wireless Graphic Design Expert, discussing business website creation and development. RSVP here.
April 1-2 - Journey to the Cross Prayer Walk
Journey to the Cross Prayer Walk is happening at American Reformed Church in Worthington on Wednesday, April 1 from 8 AM to 8 PM and on Thursday, April 2 from 8 AM to 11 AM. During the day, please stop by the office before beginning the prayer walk, so the office staff can prepare the walk for you. If you come in the evening, please come in the south door by the gym to begin. This is a hands-on worship experience that really allows you to focus on the life, death, and resurrection of our Lord. This event is open to the public and is recommended for 5th grade students to adults.
April 2 - Brian Freeman Project
The Nobles County Library and The Friends of the Library present: Brian Freeman at the Minnesota West Fine Arts Theater on April 2, 2015 from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Join Brian, one of Minnesota’s best and most acclaimed authors, as he talks about his southwest Minnesota novel Spilled Blood and his latest books to feature his series heroes Jonathan Stride and Cab Bolton, The Cold Nowhere and Season of fear. This project is funded in part or in whole with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage fund.
April 4 - Annual Indoor Easter Egg Hunt
The Annual Indoor Optimist and Hy-Vee Easter Egg Hunt will be held Saturday, April 4th at the Prairie Elementary School at 10 a.m. Doors will open at 9:15 a.m., as Walgreen's will be taking pictures with the Easter Bunny. This is open to youth third grade and under, and all youth must be accompanied by an adult. Prizes will be given away so join in on the fun!
April 6-7 - Red Cross Bloodmobile
The American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be in the area. All blood types are needed! Register in advance at redcrossblood.org otherwise walk-ins are also welcome.

The 28th Annual Children's Fair is Friday, April 10th from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Worthington High School Gym. There's no cost to attend! Bring the family out for a fun night of games, activities and crafts.
April 11 - Okabena Fire Department Fundraiser
The Okabena Fire Department will host their annual Fundraiser Dance April 11th at the Okabena Liquor Store. Corey Paplow will spin the tunes and there will be many raffle prizes to win throughout the night, and there are lots of door prizes as well. The Dance starts at 8:30PM.
April 11 - Pork Chop Supper
Boy Scout Troop 134 invites you to its Pork Chop Supper on Saturday, April 11th at the Worthington Elks Lodge. Serving goes from 5 to 8 p.m. and includes pork chops, baked potatoes, applesauce, salad, and beverages for $9 per person. Tickets are available from any Boy Scout or at the door.
April 11 - "Wildfire on the Prairie" Concert
Michael Martin Murphy is offering a "Wildfire on the Prairie" concert on Saturday, April 11th at 7:30 p.m. at the Worthington Memorial Auditorium. May 29 - Stargazing
Go Stargazing with Mike Lynch! Lynch, a broadcast meteorologist at WCCO Radio will be hosting an astronomy and stargazing class, along with a half hour of orientation of the night sky with maps and constellation diagrams provided. Cost is $10 for individuals, $25 for families. It's happening on Friday, May 29th at 9 to 11 p.m. at the Chatauqua Park Shelter House.
