Weekly "Bingo Night"
It's "Bingo Night" every Tuesday evening at the Reading Community Center! Doors open at 6 p.m. and games begin at 7 p.m. with a payout of over $900 each week! Play 26 games each night! The Reading Community Center uses profits from Bingo to help keep the doors open for community groups to utilize, such as the Elk Tip Toppers 4-H club, Reading First Responders, Reading Booster Club, and other groups.The Reading community center is a 501c3 organization.
Anyone that is divorced, divorcing, separated, or ending a long term relationship is invited to Divorce Care for Adults and Divorce Care for Kids Sunday evenings from 5:30PM until 7:30PM at the Hope Reformed Church in Spencer. Participants must pre-register Monday through Thursday by calling 712-262-3016 anytime between 9AM and 3:30PM.
Nixle - Public Safety System
Nixle is a community information service via the Worthington Police Department dedicated to helping you stay connected to the information that matters most to you. You can receive alerts for closed roads, weather alerts, safety alerts, missing persons, general notifications, special events, canvassing witnesses for leads and other evidence. To sign up, visit the City of Worthington Public Safety webpage.
Come dance to big band sound music at the Spirit Lake Senior Center from 2 to 5 p.m. every last Sunday of each month (weather permitting). Potluck snacks will be featured at intermission. Everyone is welcome!
Senior Dining Volunteers
Lutheran Social Service Senior Dining is currently looking for volunteers. They are in need of individuals to deliver meals to home bound seniors, or pack up and get them ready for delivery. We have three routes with approximately 15 meals per route. The time commitment would be anywhere from 30-60 minutes depending on the task. We can work with any schedule, whether it is once a week or once a month the help is needed. If you could help in this capacity call Kris at the Center for Active Living at 376-6457.
Free Dental Implants
Mission Outreach a division of Four Square Enterprises is offering free dental implants by a licensed dentist here in Minnesota for qualified applicants that are seeking employment but are lacking the confidence and self esteem needed. Junior Achievement Volunteers Needed
The Business Education Committee is still seeking volunteers to teach Junior Achievement. They are in need of (5) kindergarten volunteers, (4) first grade volunteers, (1) third grade volunteer and (1) fourth grade volunteer. July 29 - Annual Worthington Hockey Association Golf Tournament
The 5th Annual Worthington Hockey Association Golf Tournament will be held July 29th at the Worthington Prairie View Golf Links. Registration starts at noon with a 1:00 p.m. shotgun start. Cost is $50 per person (four-person teams), which includes 18 holes of golf and cart with a meal to follow.
July 30 - Community Blood Drive
The Nobles County Employee Wellness Committee is hosting a Community Blood Drive on Thursday, July 30th and members of the public are invited to participate. The Blood Mobile will be at the Public Works Building at 960 Diagonal Road from 7 to 11 a.m. and at the County Government Center at 315 Tenth Street from 1 to 4:30 p.m. To make an appointment, please call Bob Jirele at 295-5304. Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins are also welcome.
July 29-August 1 - Rock County Fair
The Rock County Fair kicks off July 29th through August 1st with the talent show, livestock shows, 4-H and open class exhibits, plus races, music, food and more! Don't miss it at the Rocky County Fair in Luverne!
July 31-August 1 - Annual Bigelow Swampy Days
The 15th Annual Bigelow Swampy Days will be held Friday and Saturday, July 31st and August 1st. On Friday, it's the horseshoe tournament in the park (limit 24 teams) starting at 6:30 p.m. To register, call 683-2297. Enjoy supper in the park as well, plus bingo. Saturday, the volleyball tournament kicks off at 8 a.m., with games in the park for all ages starting at 10 a.m. (pre-registration at 9:30 a.m.). Concession stands will also be open starting at 8 a.m.
July 31-August 2 - Annual Farmers Appreciation Days
The 31st Annual Farmers Appreciation Days will start the weekend with golf fun night at the Silver Lake Country Club. Saturday starts with a 5K walk/run and parade plus a noon meal, slow pitch softball tournament, vendor and craft booths. Sunday is the tractor ride and supper. August 1 - End-O-Line Railroad Park & Museum Open House
End-O-Line Railroad Park and Museum will host an open house from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, August 1 at 440 North Mill Street in Currie. The open house is free and open to the public. The buildings at the park will be open to tour, there are working model railroad displays and vintage railroad cars that will be open as well. Guest speaker John Galstad will be presenting on the "History of Model Railroading" at 1:30 p.m. and Jerry Ostensoe will give a concert of railroad and hobo songs on the grounds at 7 p.m.
August 3 - Annual Prairie Winds Steak Fry
The 8th Annual Prairie Winds Steak Fry is right around the corner, on Monday, August 3rd at the Heron Lake Community Center starting at 5 p.m. Adding to the mouthwatering grilled steak dinner are the live and silent auctions, a wine wall for an exciting chance to try something new, door prizes and music by the group SugarLoom. Dinner tickets are only sold in advance and are $20 each - no tickets are available at the door. To reserve your tickets, call Marilyn at 507-662-5064 by July 31st. August 3 - Worthington Okabena Windsurfers, Inc. Annual Meeting
The Worthington Okabena Windsurfers, Inc. Board of Directors cordially invites you to the 2015 Worthington Okabena Windsurfers, Inc. Annual Meeting. The event has been scheduled for Monday, August 3, 2015 at the Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce, 1121 Third Avenue, starting at 5:15 p.m. All members of Worthington Okabena Windsurfers, Inc. are urged to attend.
August 4 - Night to Unite
From 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4 at Pioneer Village, the Worthington Police Department will host a local Night to Unite event that is free and open to the public. There will be food, a bouncy house, face painting by the Southwest Crisis Center, lots of door prizes, free children’s ID kits and reflectors and entertainment by DJ Barry Roberts. The Worthington/Nobles Emergency Response Unit will be on display, as will a Sanford Ambulance and trucks from the Worthington Fire Department. The Southwest Crisis Center will also have a display.
August 5 - Estate Planning Workshop
CLA Estate Services is hosting a FREE Estate Planning Workshop Wednesday, August 5th from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Travelodge in Worthington (2015 Humiston Ave., Worthington, MN 56187). The workshop will provide valuable information for seniors on securing one's estate and retirement planning. Guests will receive a workbook and gain useful information regarding the pros and cons of wills and trusts, how to avoid probate, long term health care concerns, and tax reduction planning. August 6 - Nelson Family Fundraiser
The Manna Food Pantry Board is sponsoring a benefit for the Jeff Nelson Family in Honor of Sandy Nelson on Thursday, August 6th from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Westminster Presbyterian Church. Pork sandwiches, baked beans, corn and beverages will be served.
August 8 - MNWest Bluejay Scramble
The Minnesota West Bluejay 5 Person Scramble will be held on Saturday, August 8th at the Worthington Country Club. 10:00 a.m. shotgun start. Cost is $70.00 per person or $350 per team. August 8-15 - Murray County Fair
The Murray County Fair gets underway this Monday with the 4-H and special photography exhibits. Wednesday, enjoy several historical presentations throughout the day plus the two-day Lumberjack show both Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Get into the action and participate in the local "backseat driver" competition Thursday evening. Friday, it's stockcar races, the Prairie Days Parade Saturday, plus the rib cook-off! August 10 - ARC Blood Drive
An American Red Cross Blood Drive will be held August 10th at the Worthington American Reformed Church from 12 to 6 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome, otherwise you can sign up online at www.redcrossblood.org or by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS.
August 10 - President Lincoln Reenactment
Nationally recognized historian, John Voehl, will bring President Lincoln to life through character reenactment with a historical presentation. The reenactment will take place on Monday, August 10th at 7:00 p.m. in the Red Barn at Pioneer Village. The event is free and everyone is welcome to attend.
August 11 - Crusin' Downtown Worthington
your entire family and head to downtown Worthington August 11th for Cruisin’ Downtown Worthington. Tenth Street will be blocked off and classic cars and antique tractors will fill the street. The event will also feature local band Daisy Chain playing music from 5 – 7 p.m. Businesses will have back to school sales and the Downtown Worthington Farmers Market will be set up on 10th street from 4 to 7 p.m. People who would like to bring a classic or unique car, motorcycle or antique should call the Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce at 372-2919 to reserve a spot by August 10th.
August 13 - Annual MK 5K
The 7th annual MK 5K is scheduled for Thursday, August 13 at the Nobles County Fairgrounds. Run the MK5K and support those affected by domestic violence. A portion of the proceeds will stay local to help provide shelter through the Southwest Crisis Center’s safe housing program. The race starts at 7:00 p.m. Pre-registration by August 3 saves $5! August 15 - Journey Bound Quartet
The Journey Bound Quartet will be in concert at the Sheldon United Methodist Church on Saturday, August 15th at 6 p.m. Cost is a free will donation with refreshments to follow.

September 19 - Love and Theft
King Turkey Day is excited to be sponsoring “Love & Theft” at this year’s King Turkey Day on Saturday, September 19th, 2015 at the Worthington Hockey Arena on the Nobles County Fairgrounds. Tickets will go on-sale on July 20th via the King Turkey Day website and the Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce office. Prices will be $15 in advance (plus handling fees if ordering online) and $20 the day of the show. September 26 - Wilmont's Oktoberfest
Wilmont's Annual Oktoberfest returns Saturday, September 26th with vendors, beer, food, and more! An adult bean bag tournament starts at 1 p.m., with a KidsFest beginning at 2 p.m. Be sure to check out the music entertainment, with the Larry Olsen Polka Band from 2 to 6 p.m., and IV Play from 8 to 12:30 p.m. For old fashioned fun, music, carnival games, inflatables, potato sack races and more, head to Oktoberfest in Wilmont!
