Weekly "Bingo Night" 
It's "Bingo Night" every Tuesday evening at the Reading Community Center! Doors open at 6 p.m. and games begin at 7 p.m. with a payout of over $900 each week! Play 26 games each night! The Reading Community Center uses profits from Bingo to help keep the doors open for community groups to utilize, such as the Elk Tip Toppers 4-H club, Reading First Responders, Reading Booster Club, and other groups.The Reading community center is a 501c3 organization.

Divorce Care
Anyone that is divorced, divorcing, separated, or ending a long term relationship is invited to Divorce Care for Adults and Divorce Care for Kids Sunday evenings from 5:30PM until 7:30PM at the Hope Reformed Church in Spencer.  Participants must pre-register Monday through Thursday by calling 712-262-3016 anytime between 9AM and 3:30PM.

Nixle - Public Safety System
Nixle is a community information service via the Worthington Police Department dedicated to helping you stay connected to the information that matters most to you. You can receive alerts for closed roads, weather alerts, safety alerts, missing persons, general notifications, special events, canvassing witnesses for leads and other evidence. Senior Dances
Come dance to big band sound music at the Spirit Lake Senior Center from 2 to 5 p.m. every last Sunday of each month (weather permitting). Potluck snacks will be featured at intermission. Everyone is welcome!

Senior Dining Volunteers
Lutheran Social Service Senior Dining is currently looking for volunteers. They are in need of individuals to deliver meals to home bound seniors, or pack up and get them ready for delivery. We have three routes with approximately 15 meals per route. The time commitment would be anywhere from 30-60 minutes depending on the task. We can work with any schedule, whether it is once a week or once a month the help is needed. If you could help in this capacity call Kris at the Center for Active Living at 376-6457.

Free Dental Implants
Mission Outreach a division of Four Square Enterprises is offering free dental implants by a licensed dentist here in Minnesota for qualified applicants that are seeking employment but are lacking the confidence and self esteem needed. Worthington Farmers' Market
The Worthington Farmers Market is now in full swing. Shop for fresh, local produce and homemade goods on Tuesdays from 4 – 7 p.m. at the parking lot at Second Avenue and 10th Street in downtown Worthington and on Saturdays from 6:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Ace Hardware on Oxford Street. The market continues each week through the growing season. Stop by each week and see what is new!


August 21-24 - 67th Annual Corn Show
The 67th Annual Corn Show is ON at Little Rock, Iowa. Crop, flower, and produce entries are on Thursday, with the Miss Little Rock and Little Miss Little Rock Queen contests that evening. Friday, it's kids races and prize drawings, with the McDermott Carnival rides operating late Friday afternoon and Saturday after the parade. Saturday kicks off with the 25-mile bike ride or 5K walk at T&C Park, followed by a pedal pull, pork dinner, the parade, and entertainment. Sunday, enjoy an omelette and pancake breakfast from 9 to 12:30 p.m. at the City Hall followed by tournaments in the afternoon. Stay up to date on the latest via Facebook at

August 22 - Brian's Supper Club Anniversary Party

Brian's Supper Club is hosting a 20 year wedding anniversary party on Friday, August 22nd. Enjoy a hog roast from 6:30 p.m. until gone. Hicktown Mafia will be rocking the crowd from 8:30 p.m. until 12:30 a.m. Cost is $10 for both the hog roast meal and the music. Any questions, contact Gary at 605-201-1903.

August 23 - Annual Jamie Torkelson Memorial Run
The 10th Annual Jamie Torkelson Memorial Run will take place on Saturday, August 23rd at the Windom Phat Pheasant Pub. Bikes, trikes, anything on wheels are all invited. Registration starts at 10 a.m. with kickstands up at noon sharp (ride is approximately 120 miles). Cost is $15 per person. Registration includes food, music, and door prizes, with a grand prize of a 2014 Street Glide Harley! Stay for music by Judd Hoos and the 20-year reunion of the 1994 Junior Gold State Championship Hockey Team. All proceeds go towards the Windom Youth Hockey Association. August 24 - Worship by the Water
American Reformed Church invites you to "Worship by the Water" on Sun., August 24 at 10:00 AM at the Chautauqua Park band shell. Come for an informal worship experience with an inspiring message and contemporary music. A free meal will be served following the worship service. Everyone is welcome!

August 24 - Cancer Benefit for Kathy Bauermeister
A cancer benefit for Kathy Bauermeister will be held on Sunday, August 24th at the Heron Lake-Okabena Elementary School from 9 to 1 p.m. Enjoy a pancake breakfast with sausage, eggs, fruit and a beverage for a free-will donation. Items will also be collected for a silent auction.

August 25 - MN West Getting Connected Day
Minnesota West would like to extend an invitation to your business to have a booth at the Annual Getting Connected Day. This year Getting Connected Day will take place on Monday, August 25th, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on the Worthington Campus. August 25th will be the first day of classes for students. As part of a welcome to campus, Getting Connected Day will offer new and returning students free lunch in the Commons, entertainment, and a chance to become familiar with the businesses and amenities that are offered in the Worthington Area. August 28 - Sheldon Delebration Days
Sheldon Celebration Days returns August 28-Sept 1. Enjoy festivities all weekend, including arts and crafts in the park, a parade, community theatre performances, classic car cruise, food booths, kids' inflatables, music and more. For additional details go to

August 31 - Biker Bash 2014
Biker Bash 2014 is back for another year on Labor Day, Sunday, August 31st. Johnny's Pub will open at 9 a.m. for breakfast, with a bike ride by ABATE of Iowa District 8 (cost $10 per person). Registration goes from 11 a.m. to noon at all starting points (except Johnny's - registration starts at 10 a.m. til noon). All kickstands go up at noon! Don't forget about free tent camping at the Lake Park city park (free will donation) and live music by Driven to round out the night.


September 6 - Wilmont's Annual Oktoberfest
The City of Wilmont's Annual Oktoberfest is back for another year on Saturday, September 6th in Wilmont! Enjoy music from Lake Benton's Larry Olsen Polka Band from 2 to 6 p.m., with Hicktown Mafia wrapping up the night from 8 to midnight. Don't miss out on the old-fashioned fun carnival games and prizes from 2-5 p.m.! Vendors will be on site, so come hungry. For more information, check out the Wilmont Oktoberfest facebook page.

September 8 - SW MN American Red Cross Golf Tournament Fundraiser
The Southwest Minnesota American Red Cross will be holding its First Annual Golf Tournament Fundraiser on Monday, September 8th at the Prairie View Golf Course. Registration will start at 2:30 p.m. with a 3:30 p.m. shotgun start and 6:30 p.m. dinner. Tickets will be $55.00 per person or $200.00 for a team of four. Tickets include 9 holes of golf, a cart and dinner. More information and ticket availability to come.

September 12 - KTD Flower Show
The Worthington Garden Club will sponsor their annual Turkey Day Flower Show at the Worthington Wells Fargo Bank on Friday, September 12, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. The show is open to the public and anyone may exhibit. A prize will be awarded to a non-garden club member. All specimens, arrangements or potted plants should be at the bank by 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 11, 2014 and picked up at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 12th.

September 13 - KTD 5K Walk
The King Turkey Day 5K Walk is coming up Saturday, September 13th at 9 a.m. Pre-register by September 8th to guarantee your proper shirt and size at the event (featuring new for 2014 -- dri-fit long sleeve shirts!). Youth short sleeves will be avialable up until the pre-registration deadline. Cost is $15. The start time is at 9 a.m. sharp at 2nd Ave and 11th. September 13 - Gospel Night
The Cornerstone Baptist Church, 221 Third Street SW, (block west of courthouse) Orange City invites everyone to a night of gospel singing Saturday, September 13 at 7:00. The Bontrager Family singers from eastern Iowa will be presenting their musical program. A free-will offering will be taken and following the musical program, refreshments will be served. September 21 - St. Adrian Fall Dinner
The St. Adrian Fall Dinner will be held Sunday, September 21st from 4 to 7 p.m. at the St. Adrian Church Parlor. Serving includes roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, coleslaw, buns, desserts and beverages. Cost is $8 for adults, ages 6-12 $4, and ages 2-5 $2. Take-out meals are available in Adrian between 4 and 6 p.m. There are also big ticket drawings and raffle items given away! (need not be present to win).
