Gehl named MCAC Player of the Week for 2nd time

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference has released their weekly awards and for the second time this season, Minnesota West freshman Tiffany Gehl has been named the Minnesota College Athletic Conference’s Southern Division Player of the Week.


Moore named Triple "A" Award Winner

Worthington High School senior Gordy Moore has been named the MSHSL's Triple "A" Award winner for Region 2AA

Worthington High School senior Gordy Moore was named the Triple "A" Award winner for Region 2AA.
Gordy Moore has participated in cross country, track, band, choir, orchestra, speech, musical, knowledge bowl and swimming.  He has earned superior ratings at the Minnesota State High School League's Solo/Ensemble contests in choir.  Gordy is a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council and serves as President of the WHS Senior class.  He was also voted as WHS Homecoming King this past fall.  Gordy's parents are Gordon and Jane Moore of Worthington.
The Triple "A" Award was created by the Minnesota State High School League to honor and recognize high school seniors who have excelled in the classroom, on the athletic field, and in the fine arts.
Gordy Moore will be honored during the Triple "A" Award On-Court Recognition Ceremony which will be held in conjunction with the Minnesota State Boys Basketball Tournament in the Twin Cities in March.  League Officials will also announce the four Triple "A" Award recipients at the banquet, where a girl and a boy from both Class A and Class AA will receive a four-year $1,000 scholarship.Worthington High School senior Gordy Moore was named the Triple "A" Award winner for Region 2AA.


Saturday Results from Iowa State Wrestling Tournament

A few area wrestlers wrapped up their season's Saturday at the Iowa State Wrestling Tournament in Des Moines.

Class 1A:
At 126 pounds: 6th seeded Colby McIntire of Central Lyon/George-Little Rock finished in 4th place.  On Saturday, McIntire picked up an 11-3 major decision win over 10th seeded Nathan Schmitz of Don Bosco, Gilbertville.  In the 3rd place match, McIntire fell by pinfall in 4:12 to 13th seeded Sawyer Amling of Edgewood-Colesburg
Class 2A:
At 120 pounds: 5th seeded Doug Miner of Spirit Lake Park won the State Championship at 120 pounds with a 1-0 decision over Shadow Leshen of Albia.
At 138 pounds: 3rd seeded Zach Skopec of Spirit Lake Park finished in 3rd place.  Skopec won by a 1-0 decision over 11th seeded Steven Garcia of Sergeant Bluff-Luton.  In the 3rd place match, Skopec won by pinfall in 2:46 over 6th seeded Eric Clarke of Davenport Assumption.
At 220 pounds: 3rd seeded Bryce Kelleher of Sheldon/South O’Brien finished in 6th place.  Kelleher lost to 12th seeded Andy Hovden of Decorah by an 11-9 decsion.  In the 5th place match, Kelleher lost to 11th seeded Tyler Nguyen of Sergeant Bluff-Luton by a 6-2 decision.

Gehl named MCAC Player of the Week

 

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference has released their weekly basketball awards as Minnesota West Freshman Tiffany Gehl (gale) was named the Southern Division Player of the Week.
Gehl, a freshman from Fulda, helped lead the Lady Jays to a couple of key Southern Division wins in the last week.  Gehl scored a game-high 21 points in the Lady Jays win over Riverland last Wednesday and followed that up with a game-high 29 points in the Lady Jays win over Fergus Falls on Saturday.  For the week, she averaged 24.5 points per game, 5 rebounds per game, 3 assists per game, 2.5 blocks per game and 2 steals per game.  On the season, Gehl is averaging 18.6 points per game in conference play, which is 2nd in the conference behind teammate Brittany Hulstein.
The Minnesota Lady Jays are now 14-6 overall and 5-2 in the Southern Division, 2nd behind Anoka-Ramsey.  Both the Lady Jays and Bluejays are back in action on Wednesday as they host Western Technical College.

Elizabeth Luke and Gordy Moore have been selected to represent Worthington High School in the Minnesota State High School League’s Triple “A” (Academics, Arts and Athletics) program.


Aquallo named MCAC Player of the Week

Minnesota West freshman guard Tyler Aquallo was named the Minnesota College Athletic Conference Southern Division Co-Player of the Week on Tuesday.
