German shorthair pair found near Lismore

LISMORE - Two German shorthair dogs have been found about a mile north of Lismore. One is male, one is female, and both are wearing choke chains, but have no tags. The female looks as though she has recently had pups. The male is liver-colored, the female liver speckled.

WORTHINGTON – A notice from the City of Worthington Engineering Department states storm sewer work on Fourth Avenue from Lake Street to Ninth Street is scheduled to begin today. Fourth Avenue will be closed to through traffic from Lake Street to Ninth Street. Restricted local access on Fourth Avenue will be available as construction permits. Lake Street at Fourth Avenue will be closed to through traffic beginning this afternoon and lasting approximately two days. Weather permitting and construction proceeding as planned, traffic should be restored to normal in about three weeks.

WINDOM -- A donation fund has been set up for Lindsay Krick, who is battling colon cancer. Krick, the son of Lexy Hudson, now lives in Portsmouth, Va. He attended grade school in Worthington, high school in Slayton and is a U.S. Navy veteran. Donations can be sent to Lindsay Krick Medical Fund, Midwest Bank, Box 189, Windom 56101.


Planned water shut-off in Slayton next week

SLAYTON – According to Slayton City Administrator Josh Malchow, water will be shut off in the city of Slayton on Tuesday, August 20 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. City workers will be making planned repairs at the time, replacing hydrant valves. After the water is turned back on, Malchow said, there will be a boiled water advisory for 24 hours.

WORTHINGTON – During Monday night’s meeting of the Worthington City Council, members declared the former Kmart building as hazardous and will order the owner to repair or demolish the structure. Failure to comply with the order would allow the city to obtain legal right through the courts to step in and demolish or repair the hazardous building.


WWI-era posters found in Primghar Public Library

PRIMGHAR, Iowa - A northwest Iowa library is displaying what staff believe are original World War I-era posters hidden for decades in the building's attic. Kay Geerdes and Kathy Luedke, board members for the Primghar Public Library, ventured into the forgotten space this spring in search of artifacts to display or sell for the town's 125th birthday this summer.

LAKEFIELD - The Lakefield Police Department is informing the community according to Minnesota Statutes about a Level 3 predatory offender that has moved to Lakefield. This predatory offender is not wanted by the police and has served a sentence that was imposed on him by the court.


Currie man sentenced to a year for stolen property, will be out in 3 months

SLAYTON – A Currie man charged with six felonies in Murray County District Court was recently sentenced to a year in county jail after pleading guilty to a count of receiving stolen property. Counts against Brian John Hames, 41, of first-degree burglary, controlled substance possession and possession of burglary tools were dropped as part of a plea agreement.

WORTHINGTON – Here’s our weekly look at construction updates from the City of Worthington Engineering Department. Weather permitting, the city is anticipating the completion of the ADA ramp work on 10th Street by Friday and the Park Avenue water main reconstruction from Oxford to West Clary Street on Wednesday, August 14th. The First Avenue SW improvements from west of Knollwood Drive to Pleasant Avenue should be complete as of Wednesday of this week, but we’re not out of the woods yet.
