SPIRIT LAKE, Iowa – The Spirit Lake Police Department arrested 24-year-old Quentin Karlyle of Spirit Lake on Monday after he allegedly drove a 2002 Dodge Durango into an apartment building in the early morning hours.

WORTHINGTON – This week, the Buffalo Ridge Drug Task Force made its 1,000th arrest since it was formed in 2005, taking another seven ounces of methamphetamine off the streets along with $23,000 in cash. The meth has a street value of more than $10,000, according to Task Force Commander Nate Grimmius.
On March 19, as part of a joint investigation, the Buffalo Ridge Drug Task Force and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension executed a search warrant at a residence in the 600 block of Ninth Street in Worthington.

WORTHINGTON – The Worthington City Council met in special session Wednesday morning to discuss the sustainability of the Worthington Rediscovered program. Since the new council took office at the beginning at the year, they have met for work sessions or special meetings approximately twice a month to familiarize themselves with various programs, discussing the best way to utilize or fund them or how to make sure the public is aware of the opportunities the programs provide.
WORTHINGTON - The District 518 school board Tuesday approved a new three-year contract for Superintendent John Landgaard beginning with the 2015-16 school year with a base salary of $152,000. That will rise in increments to $157,000 in 2017-18. Landgaard will also receive one extra vacation day, bringing the total to 36.
WORTHINGTON - Worthington District 518 has a shortage of substitute teachers. In an effort to recruit additional substitute teachers, District 518 will be offering a one-session orientation on Thursday from 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. at Prairie Elementary. The training will cover the role and duties of a substitute teacher, information about obtaining a substitute teacher license in Minnesota, and how to apply to be a substitute teacher in Worthington.
WORTHINGTON - Oliver Wolyniec of Worthington High School was named the 2015 statewide Class AA male recipient of the Minnesota State High School League Triple “A” award at the 27th annual awards banquet in Minneapolis on Saturday.
Heidi Bau of Murray County Central was selected as the 2015 Class A female Triple “A” recipient, becoming the first MCC student in the program’s history to achieve the state title.
ST. PAUL – Seventy-five railway safety projects at Minnesota’s most dangerous and congested rail crossings – four in Pipestone - would be completed statewide, if a proposal from Governor Mark Dayton is passed this session. Governor Dayton today revealed a comprehensive list of those specific projects, which were compiled by experts at the Minnesota Department of Transportation and chosen based on their levels of danger and congestion.
