WORTHINGTON – The Nobles County Relay for Life raised $67,146.13 this year –almost $9,000 short of their $76,000 goal. They have until August to raise the remainder. The chair auction, which was delayed during the Windsurfing Regatta due to weather, raised $1,870, with proceeds going toward the Relay total. This year, the American Cancer Society is celebrating 100 years of fundraising, education and research.
The Minnesota College Athletic Conference has released their 2012-2013 Spring Sports Academic Award Winners. Athletes are given MCAC academic recognition if they have a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0 or higher at the end of the semester in which the majority of the sports season occurs and they have enrolled in and completed a minimum of 12 credits during that semester.

WORTHINGTON – The Worthington Police Department has alerted the Chamber of Commerce and local businesses about counterfeit checks being cashed in the area. One such check was passed in Worthington, another at a business in Marshall.
WORTHINGTON - Staff members from the offices of U.S. Sen. Al Franken and U.S. Rep Tim Walz met with local veteran service officers today to discuss the Quicker Benefits Delivery Act, legislation aimed at tackling the Department of Veterans Affairs benefit claims backlog.

Al Franken's (D-Minn.) and U.S. Rep Tim Walz (D-Minn.) will meet with local veterans and veterans advocates today to get input on the expanding veterans benefits claims "backlog" that is forcing hundreds of thousands of returning veterans to put their lives on hold for many months while their claims are being processed.
WORTHINGTON – Nobles County Commissioners today listened to the pros and cons of four possible locations for a new library before deciding they needed input from the general public before a decision could be made. Nobles County Library Director Julie Wellnitz was instructed to work with Vetter Johnson Architects to prepare a public display of the four sites for display at the library and the upcoming fair booth.
The four sites include the old Campbell’s Soup lot, the current Lampert Lumber Yard, the county’s public works area or the site of the old outdoor pool.
