Worthington, MN) – Rosalie (Moz) Hayenga-Hostikka of Minnesota West Community and Technical College has announced that she will be continuing her leadership job responsibilities as Women's Athletic Director, but will be stepping down as head softball coach at Minnesota West.
The Worthington Country Club's Junior Golf Program 2014 will be offering 2 sessions for young golfers and both sessions are FREE.
Kids will be divided into 2 groups
Kids age 7 thru 10 will be in the Rory Group
Kids age 11 thru 14 will be in the Jack Group
Dates for Session One will be held June 2nd, 4th, 9th, 11th, 16th, 18th, 25th and 30th. On Mondays, the Rory Group will meet at 9:00am with the Jack Group meeting at 10:15am. On Wednesdays, the Rory Group will meet at 2:30pm and the Jack Group will meet at 3:45pm. The Session One tournament will be held at June 30th
The 28th Annual King Turkey Day Great Gobbler Golf Tournament will be held on Friday, June 27th at the Worthington Country Club. 1:00 p.m. shotgun start. 18 hole scramble, 5 person team. Entry fee is $50.00 per golfer. Special Event prizes will be on each hole along with $10,000 hole-in-one prize on Hole #2. All proceeds will go toward King Turkey Day 2014. The Guillotine has released their 2013-2014 Academic All-State Teams
Wrestlers, representing 66 teams, were submitted on nomination forms signed by a coach and school administrator verifying their current GPA (minimum of 3.0), number of current season varsity matches wrestled (minimum of fifteen), current season win percentage (minimum of 60%) and grade (junior or senior).
Points were tallied according to current varsity wins, current state tournament placement and cumulative high school GPA.
A few area wrestlers found their names on the list.
Former Worthington Trojan Chris Aggen will be the new girls basketball coach at Jackson County Central. He will also teach physical education and health at the Jackson County Central Middle School in Lakefield. Aggen is a Worthington High School graduate and played college basketball at Minnesota West and Southwest Minnesota State in Marshall. He just finished a graduate assistantship at the University of Sioux Falls with the women's basketball program.
Southwest Minnesota State University senior infielder and former Adrian Dragon Jordon Kontz has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Player of the Week for his performance in helping SMSU earn five victories last week.
A native of Lismore, Kontz led SMSU to a 5-1 record during the week and helped the Mustangs clinch a spot in the NSIC tournament for the first time since 2010.
Former Worthington Trojan Jordon Bents continues to have a great junior season for the University of Sioux Falls Track And Field Team.
Bents finished 13th overall in the Shot Put with his NCAA provisional qualifying and USF school record toss of 55 feet, 3.5 inches (16.85m) at the Drake Relays. In addition to breaking the 21 year old school record, Bents mark is the 17th best mark in Division II and the second best mark in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference this season.

With the beginning of the new Big South Conference just on the horizon, there will be a new look to the Worthington Trojan Football team's schedule beginning next season.
The Big South Conference features teams from the Southwest Conference and the South Central Conference. Worthington's 2014 schedule will all be Big South Conference games, facing 4 teams from the former Southwest Conference and 4 from the former South Central Conference.
Two area athletes signed national letters of intent to continue their wrestling careers with the Southwest Minnesota State University Mustangs in Marshall.
Minnesota West Sophomore Tiffany Gehl continues to add awards to her list of accomplishments as the Fulda native has been named a National Junior College Athletic Association Division III All-American
