Minnesota West Freshman Libero Paige Kinley has once again earned the Minnesota College Athletic Conference's Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week for the 2nd time this season.
Kinley, a freshman from Worthington, was named Player of the Week after helping the Lady Jays to a split of 2 games over the weekend, including a win over Fergus Falls on Friday that secured the Lady Jays spot in the Region 13A Tournament. Kinley had 44 digs in the 2 games over the weekend. Kinley is 10th in the Southern Division in Digs Per Set, with an average of 3.16 digs per set.
The Minnesota West Bluejay Football team has another player earning MCAC honors this week as freshman Thomas Timmons has been named the MCAC Offensive Player of the Week.
Timmons, a freshman from Mobile, Alabama, rushed for 176 yards on 16 carries and scored 3 touchdowns including an 82-yard rushing touchdown in the 4th quarter to help secure the Bluejays' 32-21 win over Mesabi Range last Thursday. Timmons, who does play both ways at times for the Bluejays, has rushed for 300 yards this season on only 47 carries for an average of 6.4 yards per carry.
The playoff seedings have been released for area football teams in Minnesota
In Section 3AAA, the Worthington Trojans received the #2 seed and get a 1st round bye. Worthington will face the winner of the 1st round matchup between #3 Belle Plaine and #6 Sibley East in a Section Semifinal at Trojan Field in Worthington on October 25th at a time to be determined.
Blue Earth Area is the #1 seed and will host the winner between #4 Fairmont and #5 St. Peter on October 25th. The section championship will be hosted by the highest seed on October 31st

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference has released their weekly awards in Volleyball and 2 Minnesota West Lady Jays have earned Player of the Week honors.
Minnesota West's Kristen Anderson has been named the MCAC Southern Division Hitter of the Week. Anderson, a sophomore from Worthington, had 38 kills, 17 blocks and 21 digs in 5 games last week. Anderson had 13 kills and 7 blocks in a 3-2 loss to Division II Williston last week
The Worthington Trojan Sports Booster Club is holding their annual fall sports kickoff on Monday, August 18th. The Booster Club will be grilling hot dogs, with serving of food to begin at 5:30pm at the Worthington High School Cafeteria. Introduction of Fall Sports Athletes will begin at 6:00pm and Spring State Sports Individuals will be honored as well.
The Worthington Trojan football team will be hosting an event this Saturday, August 16th, at 7:30 PM at Trojan Field. They are calling this Trojan Football Family Night. The night will consist of an intra-squad scrimmage, watermelon social, family activities and picture opportunities of the players. This event is open to all family members and to the public as well.

On Monday night, the Worthington City Council approved a resolution that designates PBK Investments, a Minnetonka firm, as the sole developer of the Northland Mall property until the end of the year. This allows Brian Pellowski of PBK to proceed forward with plans to redevelop the current site.
